Position Title: Benefits Specialist

Location: Greenville, South Carolina

As a Benefits Specialist, you are detail-oriented, service-driven, and enjoy working in a process-focused environment. You thrive on accuracy, compliance, and problem-solving while supporting employees with their benefits needs. You are comfortable working with vendors, HR systems, and sensitive information, and you continuously look for opportunities to improve processes and enhance the employee experience.

Responsibilities:

Benefits Administration
• Assist with the annual benefits enrollment process, including preparation, execution, and employee communication.
• Manage benefit enrollments, terminations, and changes across all benefit plans.
• Maintain accurate employee benefit records and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Distribute benefits information to employees following compliance and communication guidelines.
• Conduct weekly and monthly audits of benefit enrollments, deductions, and eligibility.
• Audit and reconcile medical, dental, vision, life, STD/LTD, FSA/HSA, and COBRA invoices.
• Review fixed-cost medical billing and reconcile employee payroll deductions.
• Allocate insurance invoices to the appropriate departments.

Vendor & Employee Support
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with benefit vendors and third-party administrators.
• Assist employees by explaining benefit plans, resolving issues, and supporting insurance appeals as needed.
• Serve as a backup for new hire orientations and onboarding-related benefits activities.
• Train and support internal employees on benefits, insurance, and related payroll processes.

Compliance, Reporting & Process Improvement
• Follow proper procedures related to HCM, benefit systems, and ACA/1095 coding.
• Support unemployment processes, including responding to claims and submitting rate updates in HCM.
• Identify opportunities to improve benefits processes, controls, and efficiencies.
• Cover responsibilities of other positions within the Benefits Department when required.
• Perform other duties in support of the Compensation and Benefits team as required.

Work Environment
This role operates primarily in a professional office environment and requires regular interaction with employees, HR partners, and external vendors.

Travel
Some travel (10%) may be required for training, meetings, or vendor-related activities.

What You’ll Bring to the Table:
• Strong organizational, time management, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality.
• Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and recommend process improvements.
• Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external partners.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Required: 3+ years of related experience in benefits administration, human resources, or total rewards.
• Required: Experience administering employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, STD/LTD, FSA/HSA, and COBRA.
• Required: Experience administering and supporting benefits programs for a large employee population across multiple plans.
• Required: Experience supporting benefits enrollment and ongoing employee life-cycle changes.
• Required: Experience conducting benefits audits, reconciliations, and payroll deductions.
• Required: Experience working with benefit vendors, brokers, and third-party administrators.
• Required: Working knowledge of benefits compliance (ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA).
• Required: Strong customer service orientation with the ability to communicate effectively with employees and vendors.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field.
• Preferred: Experience with Human Capital Management (HCM) system(s).
