About This Position

POSITION DESCRIPTION


The Program Accountant – will be responsible for reconciling Managing General Agents (MGAs) account receivables monthly in accordance with departmental standards and report all potential problems with proposed corrective action to supervisor. Analyze and reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts.


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare MGA reconciliations and follow up with MGAs on reconciling differences
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of claims paid and reserves with the claims ledger and general ledger.
  • Reconciliation of other program related accounts i.e Commission, Fees, Premium Receivables, Premium Paybles.
  • Responsible for reconciling reinsurance transactions including reinsurance recoverables and funds held accounts.
  • Prepare and post journal entries.
  • Contact Managing General Agents (MGAs) to develop business relations to solve situations regarding account receivables and differences of premiums and commissions; and obtain necessary documents to process them in our system.
  • Responsible for the preparation of reinsurance bourderaux as applicable.
  • May assist the EVP and CFO in other tasks and special accounting and finance projects
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years of relevant business experience
  • Property and casualty insurance experience is a plus.
  • Proven knowledge of GAAP and STAT accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, accounting software and databases.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Performance and results oriented with proven execution with tight deadlines
  • Intermediate to advance MS Excel skills


SKILLS

  • Fully Bilingual in English and Spanish. Ability to read, and analyze, insurance transactions.
  • Ability to effectively present information in an articulate, persuasive, and decisive manner.
  • Ability to handle mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to define problems; collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • The responsibilities of this position require continuous interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work and interact with departments throughout the organization
  • Time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Able to maintain confidential information.
  • Fast learner
