About This Position

Monitor Technician

Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager, the Monitor Technician provides monitoring surveillance on a special care unit by assisting in the continuous observation and alerting staff quickly of changes in patient activity that may contribute to a fall, injury, or elopement. You will be assigned to support the provision of a safe environment for patients who meet the following criteria:
  • Suicidal patient
  • Administrative hold patient
  • Pediatric patients not boarded in a secured area and/or at risk of harm
  • Impulsive
  • Self-injurious
  • Cognitively impaired/confused
  • Unsteady gait
  • The Monitor Tech collaborates with all unit members, including the patient and family, and is vital to patient care.
Hourly Pay Rate: $16.22 - $23.92

The night shift pay differential will be paid at 18% of the employee's base rate of pay. The weekend shift pay differential will be paid at 8% of the employee's base rate of pay.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Prefer completion of an accredited Unit Technician school for Monitor Technician.
Experience:
  • Prefer one (1) year of previous Central Surveillance and Unit Coordinator experience.
  • Prefer experience as a patient safety attendant in a hospital, nursing home, or home care setting for patients with medical or behavioral needs.
Specialized Training:
  • Must successfully complete approved Valleywise Health computer classes.
Certification/Licensure:
  • Requires a BLS card obtained through an approved American Heart Association (AHA) training center within 3 months.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
  • Must have the ability to work with culturally diverse people.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Must have a working knowledge of medical terminology and be proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office.
