About This Position
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Network Automation Engineer in the United States.
This role offers the opportunity to design and implement advanced network automation and orchestration platforms across both enterprise and tactical environments. You will apply software engineering and infrastructure automation principles to networking, enabling consistent, repeatable, and efficient deployment, configuration, and validation of network infrastructure. Working closely with platform, networking, and infrastructure teams, you will transform manual processes into automated workflows, ensuring high availability, compliance, and performance across distributed systems. This position combines hands-on technical work, infrastructure-as-code development, and operational problem-solving in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Ideal candidates thrive on innovation, scalability, and solving complex networking challenges while contributing to next-generation automation strategies.
The Network Automation Engineer is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and optimizing automated network solutions:
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable network automation workflows for routers, firewalls, load balancers, and other network functions.
- Configure overlay and underlay networks in virtualized and hybrid environments, ensuring connectivity, routing, and policy compliance.
- Convert manual deployment procedures into parameterized, reusable Infrastructure-as-Code pipelines.
- Automate configuration management, policy enforcement, certificate lifecycle management, and compliance validation.
- Implement configuration drift detection, self-healing workflows, and operational monitoring for distributed systems.
- Collaborate with platform, networking, and infrastructure teams to integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines and broader platform initiatives.
- Document deployment standards, automation frameworks, and operational procedures.
- Troubleshoot complex network, routing, and segmentation issues across multi-vendor environments.
- Support mission-critical, high-availability networks with rapid recovery and continuous reliability.
Candidates should bring a strong foundation in networking, automation, and distributed systems:
- 3+ years of network engineering experience and 5+ years in network automation using Ansible.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure or networking.
- Proficiency in Linux administration fundamentals.
- Experience with network APIs and data models, including REST, NETCONF, RESTCONF, YANG, and OpenConfig.
- Familiarity with distributed systems concepts such as leader election, state replication, and distributed queues.
- Experience with clustering or coordination tools such as Akka, Raft, Zookeeper, or Redis.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, routing, segmentation, VPNs, and virtualized/containerized network functions.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and operational support skills.
- Preferred: experience with high-availability networks, network observability platforms, SDR or tactical RF deployments, and testing automation in network simulation environments (e.g., GNS3, EVE-NG, Containerlab).
- Competitive salary based on experience and location.
- Fully remote work with flexibility to support work-life balance.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
- Retirement plan with company matching.
- Professional development opportunities and mentorship.
- Travel opportunities (approximately 30-50%) for operational support, training, and collaboration.
- Access to cutting-edge networking, automation, and cloud technologies.
