This part-time role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) engineer to contribute expertise to high-impact energy and industrial projects while maintaining a flexible schedule. You will apply your technical knowledge to design studies, system upgrades, and digital control solutions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior engineers. The position involves both office and field engagement, including detailed plant walkdowns and close coordination with clients and project stakeholders. You will deliver precise, compliant engineering outputs that exceed industry standards, supporting projects across power generation, nuclear, and government sectors. This fully remote role allows you to remain active in cutting-edge engineering work while balancing professional and personal priorities. Your contributions will directly influence system performance, safety, and long-term operational success.
- Develop precise and high-quality engineering deliverables, including calculations, analyses, and design documentation, ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards
- Lead digital control and computer monitoring system upgrades, covering feasibility studies, procurement specifications, design change packages, testing, and commissioning
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to produce integrated solutions for complex energy and industrial projects
- Perform plant walkdowns, on-site evaluations, and client engagement to validate system designs and ensure project success
- Mentor early- and mid-career engineers, sharing expertise and fostering professional growth within the team
- Stay current on industry regulations, safety principles, and advanced I&C design techniques to enhance project quality and innovation
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
- Experience in engineering/design services, power generation, nuclear, heavy industrial, or government projects
- Hands-on knowledge of digital I&C systems, including design, installation, testing, and lifecycle management of complete systems
- Familiarity with regulatory standards, digital upgrade protocols, cybersecurity systems, and control system platforms (DCS, process computer, turbine/generator control systems)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently or collaboratively
- Experience mentoring or guiding junior engineers is preferred
- For nuclear-related positions, ability to obtain facility badging and unescorted access; for federal services positions, U.S. citizenship required
- Part-time schedule (average 30 hours/week) with flexible remote work arrangements
- Competitive pay range of $61.48 - $92.36 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
