Job Overview: This position serves as an integral member of New York City Center’s development team and is responsible for managing City Center’s portfolio of institutional donors, primarily corporations and foundations, with occasional interaction with government funders. They serve as the primary grant writer and relationship manager for institutional donors, and collaborate with the Director of Development, VP & CDO, and President & CEO to craft and implement long-term strategies to grow and sustain the portfolio. The Assistant Director of Institutional Giving is expected to demonstrate a passion for fundraising, while supporting City Center’s mission and commitment to being an anti-racist organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of foundation and corporate funders with responsibility for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies designed to grow institutional revenue.
  • Represent City Center in meetings, site visits, and presentations with foundation and corporate funders and prospects, often alongside the Director of Development, VP & CDO, and President & CEO.
  • Identify, research, and cultivate new foundation and corporate funding opportunities aligned with City Center’s strategic priorities.
  • Develop compelling grant proposals, sponsorship packages, and reports that clearly communicate City Center’s impact and partnership opportunities using qualitative and quantitative program data.
  • Work with the Director of Development and VP & CDO to develop and implement strategies to meet annual Institutional Giving fundraising goals.
  • Along with the Director of Development, supervise the Institutional Giving Assistant, ensuring timely proposal submissions, reporting, benefit fulfillment, and accurate donor crediting.
  • Act as host of the Shuman Patrons Lounge in rotation with other front-line fundraisers, welcoming and engaging donors during performances. This requires some evening and weekend availability.
  • Collaborate with the Musical Theater, Dance, and Education & Community Engagement departments to identify funding opportunities and articulate program outcomes for institutional donors.
  • Prepare proposal and report budgets in consultation with the CFO and Comptroller.
  • Support the Director of Development in government communications and reporting, including assisting with proposal preparation, materials coordination, and administrative aspects of City Center’s government funding portfolio.
  • Participate in cultivation events and special gatherings with donors and prospects.
  • Take on special projects and other duties as assigned.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • 4-6 years of experience with Foundation and Corporate fundraising.
  • Ability to translate complex data into digestible reports.
  • Efficient in managing multiple deadline-oriented projects.
  • Skills in organization and analysis, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of government application information.
  • Self-motivated professional with enthusiastic team player skills.
  • Experience and interest in performing arts and arts administration.
  • Capability to work in a fast-paced environment.
