Position Summary:
The Community Event Coordinator is responsible for coordinating volunteers, managing in-kind donations, and planning onsite events and activities for guests at the Tamarac Family Shelter. This role serves as a primary point of contact for community members, volunteer groups, and partner organizations seeking to engage with the shelter. Through thoughtful coordination and relationship-building, the Community Coordinator enhances guest experience, increases community involvement, and ensures volunteer and donation efforts align with shelter policies, safety standards, and guest needs.

Mission of Role:

General Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

Donation Management
- Coordinate and manage in-kind donations, including intake, sorting, storage, and distribution in collaboration with shelter operations staff.
- Communicate current donation needs and guidelines to community members and partner organizations.
- Ensure donated items meet shelter standards and guest needs and are distributed equitably.
Onsite Events and Guest Engagement
- Plan, coordinate, and support onsite events, activities, and community engagement opportunities for shelter guests.
- Coordinate logistics for events, including space usage, schedules, supplies, volunteer support, and partner involvement.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure events are trauma-informed, family- centered, and aligned with shelter operations.
Community Partnerships and Outreach
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, faith-based groups, businesses, and volunteers to support shelter programming and donations.
- Identify new opportunities for community engagement, partnerships, and in-kind support.
- Represent the shelter professionally in community meetings, outreach efforts, and partner interactions as assigned.
Administrative and Coordination Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate documentation related to volunteers, donations, and events using internal tracking tools.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager and Site Director to ensure volunteer and donation activities align with operational priorities.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and coordination calls as required.
- Uphold trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and guest-centered practices in all interactions.
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager and Site Director
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong relationship-building and community engagement skills.
- Experience coordinating events, or community programs.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple schedules, priorities, and partnerships simultaneously.
- Understanding of trauma-informed care and respectful engagement with individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Competence in basic data tracking, documentation, and use of electronic systems.
Expected Hours of Work:
40 Hours Flexible Scheduling (some evening and weekend availability required)
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to stand, walk, lift, bend, and engage in active programming with children.
- Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, including in community settings.

Work Environment:
Bayaud Works is a subsidiary of AC Disaster Consulting. Our Temporary Staffing Service partners with Federal, State, City, County, and private employers to provide high-quality staffing and operational support. Bayaud Works was created to provide opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment and has since expanded to include shelter management, safety patrol, janitorial services, and transportation operations.
Experience and Education Required:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, event planning, or nonprofit operations.
- Highschool diploma or GED
Experience and Education Preferred:
- Experience working in a shelter or human services environment strongly preferred.

- Must be 18 years or older
- Must pass background check
