Position Overview

The Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for originating, underwriting, and managing a portfolio of commercial loans. This role involves building strong relationships with business clients, assessing their financial needs, and delivering tailored lending solutions to help them achieve their goals. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of commercial banking, credit analysis, local market dynamics, and exceptional customer service and risk management skills.

Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development
  • Identify and cultivate new business opportunities within the community and target markets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective business clients, acting as their primary point of contact for financial solutions.
  • Attend networking events, industry conferences, and community activities to build the bank's presence and generate leads.
Loan Origination and Underwriting
  • Conduct thorough financial analysis of businesses, including reviewing financial statements, cash flow projections, and credit reports.
  • Assess clients’ borrowing needs and structure loan packages that align with the bank’s policies and risk appetite.
  • Prepare detailed loan proposals for approval by the credit committee or senior management.
Portfolio Management
  • Monitor and manage a portfolio of commercial loans, ensuring compliance with loan agreements and prompt resolution of any issues.
  • Conduct regular client reviews to assess financial health and identify cross-selling opportunities for other bank products or services.
  • Proactively manage risk by addressing delinquent accounts, restructuring loans as needed, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Customer Relationship Management
  • Provide exceptional client service by offering financial advice, answering inquiries, and resolving issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with other bank departments to deliver a comprehensive suite of financial services, including treasury management and digital banking solutions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, understanding their goals and helping them navigate financial challenges.
Risk and Compliance
  • Ensure all loan transactions comply with federal, state, and local regulations and bank policies and procedures.
  • Partner with compliance and risk management teams to address audit findings and implement corrective actions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes that may impact lending activities.
Reporting and Documentation
  • Prepare accurate and timely loan documentation, including agreements, covenants, and disclosures.
  • Maintain detailed records of client interactions, loan files, and credit approvals in the bank’s systems.
  • Provide regular reports on pipeline, portfolio performance, and loan quality to senior management.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, economics, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred).
  • Minimum of [3-5] years of experience in commercial lending, credit analysis, or a related role within a banking environment.
Skills and Knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial banking products, credit underwriting, and financial analysis.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, BSA/AML, and lending laws.
  • Strong relationship management and business development skills.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Fluent in Spanish - Strongly Preferred.
Technical Proficiency
  • Proficiency in financial analysis software, loan origination systems, and CRM tools.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
