Virtualization Build Engineer at Strategic Business Systems – Chantilly, Virginia

SBS is seeking an Virtualization Build Engineer to help design and build next-generation private cloud and virtualization infrastructure in a greenfield datacenter environment. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys building systems from scratch, integrating new technologies, and solving complex infrastructure challenges.

You will work on high-impact enterprise infrastructure, deploying and integrating virtualization, Linux systems, container platforms, and security-hardened environments on modern HPE hardware.

This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in deep technical work, enjoy automation and systems integration, and want exposure to large-scale private cloud environments.

What You'll Do

• Build and deploy virtualized infrastructure from the ground up
• Install, patch, and configure VMware and Linux environments on enterprise hardware
• Deploy and manage virtual machines, system images, and OS lifecycle processes
• Integrate third-party and proprietary tools into private cloud platforms
• Support STIG hardening, security compliance, and vulnerability remediation
• Plan and implement new platform capabilities and tooling
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure and integration issues

What We're Looking For

Required Skills

• Expert-level VMware experience
• Expert-level Linux engineering skills
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes / container platforms
• Strong experience managing VM lifecycle and virtualization environments
• Experience with OS image lifecycle management
• Knowledge of STIGs, security hardening, and compliance
• Ability to troubleshoot and debug complex infrastructure systems

Work & Travel

• 70% remote / 30% travel
• Travel expenses covered by the employer
• Work performed during U.S. business hours
