About This Position

Director of Regional Pharmacy Services is responsible for the coordination and direction of all areas of the Pharmacy to include administrative, technical, clerical, and personnel aspects of the departments. Acts as the Pharmacist in Charge at any location as situations necessitate. Responsibility for ensuring Directors of Pharmacy and Operations Coordinators at Highland Community Hospital, Perry County General Hospital, Walthall General Hospital, Marion General Hospital, Pearl River Community Hospital, and Jefferson Davis Community Hospital are coordinating and directing areas of responsibility in a standardized approach.

Recruits and maintains adequate staff across the regional pharmacy service line. Seeks to advance the practice of pharmacy to improve the quality of care provided. Guides, directs and maintains the development, delivery, and marketing of both clinical and operational programs and services. Utilizes the hospitals group purchasing organization to optimize fiscally responsible purchases. Operates within a budget across multiple hospitals. This position requires extensive contact and collaboration with Administration, medical staff, nursing service, and non-hospital personnel across multiple hospitals and geographies. This position requires the ability to utilize technology to optimize efficiency. Must be able to meet daily, weekly and annual goals with little to no direct supervision. Must ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations governing pharmaceuticals and controlled substances. Oversight and responsibility for antibiotic stewardship within the regional hospital pharmacy service line.

Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possessing the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Knowledge and sensitivity to cultural and religious beliefs of patients, visitors and staff. Maintains all department and hospital records and enters accurate information into the electronic health record. Fulfills professional responsibility in dispensing, procurement, control, and consultation involved with pharmaceuticals. The pharmacist must possess and utilize a knowledge base in medication for children (pediatric), adolescent, and geriatric patients to evaluate orders, make recommendations for therapy and manage therapy through protocols. Supervises and directs support personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.

Performance Expectations:

 Utilizes critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with in a fast paced environment without prompting by supervisor.

 Advances the pharmacy service line operational and clinically by adding services and optimizing workflows, at minimum quarterly.  Possesses strong knowledge of hospital policies and government regulations and applies those independently to department operations resulting in compliant operations upon supervisor review.

  • Consults across hospital disciplines regarding department operations resulted in few complaints from these disciplines.
  • Communicates routinely with hospital leadership concerning policy recommendations and suggested courses of action pertinent to the efficient operation.
  • Implements new policies and disseminations pertinent information following leadership directives in the timeframe requested.
  • Utilizes knowledge of the age-specific needs of the patient in performance of duties and responsibilities, resulting in few major medication errors.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Utilizes department practices consistently in accordance with USP797, USP795 and USP800 resulting in few to no findings by a surveying agency.

Education/Skills: Degreed Pharm.D. with a state license as a Registered Pharmacist is required.

Work Experience: Must have prior supervisory experience.

Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE

  • Registration with the Mississippi State of Board of Pharmacy.
  • Current Controlled Substance Registration in the State of Mississippi by the MS State Board of Pharmacy.
