About This Position
Description:
The Cafe Assistant Manager assists the Cafe Manager ensuring that all of the food service needs of Pantano Christian Church are met and executed properly.
Primary Responsibilities
- Operational Management: Running daily operations, including opening/closing, handling cash, coordinating priorities and maintaining inventory. Serving in place of the Cafe Manager when they are not present, assuming all duties and supervising volunteers
- Volunteer & Staff Leadership: Training, coaching, supervising team members, and coordinating with the team to fill schedules. Assisting with volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, and scheduling
- Guest Experience: Ensuring exceptional service, addressing deficiencies, and fostering a welcoming atmosphere for the guests. Assisting the Cafe Team with all meal services, special events and projects.
- Safety Management: Maintaining high cleanliness standards, temperature controls, product rotation of food and utensils and ensuring proper hand washing and glove use. Organizing and cleaning kitchen equipment as-needed or as instructed by the Cafe Manager
- Quality Control: Maintaining high prep standards and product consistency. Managing rotation, labeling, handling and equipment settings. Preparing food in the kitchen as needed for upcoming food services or events
- Financial & Admin: Monitoring sales report, controlling waste, assisting with supply ordering and scheduling
Other Duties
- Attend weekly 1:1, team and staff meetings, including retreats
- Adhere to all church policies and procedures and ensure that volunteers comply with guidelines for ministry
- Work assigned duties during “All Hands On Deck” events for Christmas, Easter services, as well as Rooted Dinners, Meet N Greet Lunches and more as needed
- Additional duties as assigned
- Active Difference Maker at Pantano Christian Church (upon hire)
- Previous experience in a supervisory or management role within a cafe, restaurant, or fast-paced food service environment
- Excellent leadership, verbal & written communication, and problem-solving skills
- Strong knowledge of food production and equipment operation
- Proficiency in computer systems, POS systems, and workplace applications
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- 1 to 2 years of previous food service experience
- Current Food Handlers Certification and ability to acquire Food Manager Certification
- Knowledge and ability to maintain all kitchen equipment
- Ability to count cash, balance a cash drawer and account for all checks, gift cards and receipts
- Ability to effectively utilize online communication, email and calendar tools
- Ability to work productively without direct supervision
- Ability to work well and collaborate with team members, volunteers and other staff
- Ability to develop and maintain high-functioning teams of volunteers
- Ability to maintain prompt, regular and predictable attendance
- Ability to maintain reasonable, expected workload within the designated hours
- Ability to spend time standing, bending and lifting in the course of standard work
- Ability to pass pre-employment physical screening:
- Basic physical
- 50lb lift test
- Drug screen
- A high school diploma or GED
