Swim Instructor - Summer Seasonal

The JCC of Central New Jersey is a non-profit agency whose mission is to educate, enrich and empower our community – from generation to generation. The JCC offers educational, recreational, fitness & wellness, cultural and communal programs and activities to people of all abilities and all stages of life.

Summary of Position:

The JCC is looking for energetic, focused and committed people who love the water and enjoy working with children to serve as certified Water Safety Instructors (WSIs) in our Aquatics department. This is a seasonal, overtime non-exempt position reporting to the Aquatics director. Seasonal hours: Monday - Friday, 9:30am - 3:30pm

Key Responsibilities:

· Provide progressive group swim lessons following American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim guidelines along with current JCC aquatics curriculum.

· Maintain the health and safety of all participants

· Present oneself in an appropriate and professional manner; wear one piece swimsuit at all times

· Represent and promote the JCC in a positive manner

· Develop and adhere to a block plan prior to the start of the class while adhering to American Red Cross and JCC skill checklists

· Provide periodic progress reports for each swimmer

· Commit to full summer season (June 29 - August 21, 2026)

· Develop and maintain a positive relationship with students

· Attend and participate in pre-season trainings

· Maintain Current American Red Cross WSI certification

· Other relevant duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills:

· Valid American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification required

· Ability to adapt lesson plan if necessary

· Exhibit patience and understanding that each swimmer develops at their own pace

· Ability to identify and focus on different skill development needs for each swimmer

· Prior experience working with children preferred

Physical Requirements:

· Spend prolonged amount of time in swimming pool

· Must be able to lift 40 pounds

Compensation: Pay starts at $16.50/hour and may vary based on experience
