Overview

This is a full-time career opportunity that can be fully remote. Hybrid flexibility may also be available within the Fulton footprint (DE, MD, PA, NJ, VA). Requires travel to corporate headquarters in Lancaster, PA (approximately 10-12 times a year).

The Corporate Tax Director is responsible for leading the bank's tax strategy, compliance, reporting, and planning across all federal, state, and local jurisdictions. This role oversees the bank's enterprise-wide tax posture—including income tax provision (ASC 740), regulatory and SEC-related tax disclosures, tax risk management, and audit defense. The Corporate Tax Director will serve as the subject-matter expert on all tax matters for a publicly traded financial institution, ensuring compliance with complex bank specific tax rules and optimizing tax outcomes in alignment with the bank's financial and strategic objectives.



Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive tax strategy aligned with the bank’s business goals, capital planning, and risk management framework.
  • Advise executive leadership and the board (as appropriate) on tax impacts of corporate initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, and other strategic projects.
  • Monitor emerging tax legislation, regulatory developments, and banking industry tax trends, assessing and communicating their implications.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740, including uncertain tax positions.
  • Ensure accurate tax-related disclosures for SEC filings (10 Q, 10 K) and support the external reporting team in drafting footnotes and MD&A tax commentary.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and provide documentation to support audits of tax accounts, including all IRS, state and local tax audits, examinations and inquiries.
  • Direct all federal, state, and local income tax filings for the consolidated group, including bank specific filings and franchise taxes.
  • Ensure timely tax payments, estimated tax calculations, and compliance with regulatory reporting related to taxes.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over the tax function in accordance with SOX 404 requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to minimize the bank's effective tax rate while maintaining compliance.
  • Support analysis of complex tax matters including treatment of loan loss reserves, investment securities and mark-to-market issues, bank-owned life insurance, leasing and securitization structures, and executive compensation and equity programs
  • Partner with business units to ensure transactions are structured efficiently from a tax perspective.
  • Maintain robust documentation to support tax positions and defend against challenges.
  • Evaluate tax risks and implement processes to enhance tax governance and compliance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop tax team members to support their technical growth and performance.
  • Manage external tax advisors and consultants, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality support.
  • Manage the Tax Credit and Community Development Investment function for the Corporation, which includes partnering with businesses and Affiliate management in sourcing, negotiating and closing Tax Credit and Community Development Investments.
  • Responsible to provide management and oversight over administration, compliance and monitoring of Community Reinvestment Act investment portfolio, as well as to provide meaningful Community Reinvestment Act Investment effort support for Affiliate Banks, including participation in Affiliate Bank's Community Reinvestment Act Committees.

Qualifications

EducationBachelor's Degree or the equivalent experience. Specialty: Relevant degree pertaining to the essential duties of this role. (Required)

Experience10 or more years progressive corporate tax experience, including significant experience in the financial services or banking industry. (Required)

3 or more years background with Big 4 or national CPA firm. (Preferred)

CertificationsCPA license. (Preferred)
