Position Summary

The Engineering Technician supports Alcom Manufacturing’s Engineering team by assisting with product design, documentation, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role bridges engineering design and manufacturing execution, ensuring trailer designs, components, and processes are accurately documented, tested, and implemented on the production floor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support engineers with the development, modification, and maintenance of trailer designs, components, and assemblies
  • Create, revise, and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, BOMs, work instructions, and specifications
  • Assist with prototype builds, product testing, and validation activities
  • Support manufacturing by troubleshooting design or process issues and recommending improvements
  • Collect and analyze data related to product performance, quality, and manufacturing efficiency
  • Assist with engineering change notices (ECNs) and ensure changes are communicated and implemented accurately
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and Maintenance teams
  • Support continuous improvement, cost reduction, and standardization initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and applicable regulations
  • Maintain organized engineering records and documentation systems

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and hands-on manufacturing experience
  • 1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering support role (preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Proficiency with basic measurement tools and inspection equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in metal fabrication, welding, or trailer/manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)
  • Understanding of BOMs, routings, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement or lean manufacturing initiatives
  • Basic understanding of quality systems and engineering change processes

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to spend time in both office and production floor environments
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb as required in a manufacturing setting
  • Use of appropriate PPE when on the production floor
