Job Description

Engagement Manager - Oil & Gas, Refinery Operations Consulting

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Engagement Manager - Oil & Gas, Refinery Operations Consulting in France.

This role sits at the intersection of high-impact consulting and complex refinery operations within the downstream oil and gas sector. You will lead on-site engagements with major refinery clients across Europe, driving measurable operational and financial improvements through structured project execution. Acting as both a project leader and client partner, you will oversee multidisciplinary workstreams while ensuring delivery of significant performance gains. The environment is highly dynamic, requiring frequent travel and close collaboration with senior client stakeholders. You will contribute directly to large-scale transformation initiatives, helping clients unlock efficiency, reduce losses, and optimize value chains. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in fast-paced operational settings and enjoys solving complex industrial challenges.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of refinery consulting projects, ensuring structured project management from initiation through execution and close-out.
  • Develop and review project plans, resource allocations, timelines, and risk mitigation strategies in collaboration with internal and client stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple operational workstreams such as blending, energy intensity, hydrocarbon loss control, and value chain optimization.
  • Monitor project milestones and ensure delivery is achieved on time, within scope, and within budget across all engagements.
  • Maintain strong client relationships, acting as the primary point of contact for project execution and issue resolution.
  • Prepare and deliver project status reports to senior stakeholders, ensuring transparency on progress, risks, and outcomes.
  • Identify and pursue additional improvement opportunities within client environments to enhance operational and financial performance.
  • Mentor and coach junior consultants and operations teams, supporting capability development and performance improvement.
  • Participate in internal initiatives to improve methodologies, tools, and delivery standards across engagements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Oil & Gas, or a related technical field; MBA or postgraduate degree is an advantage.
  • 5+ years of experience in refinery operations management within downstream oil and gas environments.
  • Strong background in managing operational workstreams such as blending, energy efficiency, and value chain optimization.
  • Proven experience in project management methodologies and delivery of complex, multi-stakeholder engagements.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated experience in continuous process improvement.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication, client engagement, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments with high adaptability and strong leadership presence.
  • Willingness and availability to travel 60–80% (up to 100% depending on projects) across Europe and internationally.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation aligned with senior consulting and operations leadership roles.
  • High exposure to international refinery operations and large-scale industrial transformation projects.
  • Opportunity to deliver measurable financial impact for major energy sector clients.
  • Dynamic, fast-growing consulting environment with strong performance culture.
  • Career development through mentoring, coaching, and hands-on leadership responsibilities.
  • International travel experience across Europe and potentially global engagements.
  • Inclusive and supportive work environment with reasonable accommodation where needed.
