This leadership role sits at the core of a global ophthalmology-focused organization, driving scientific engagement and medical strategy across a broad pharmaceutical portfolio. The position is responsible for shaping and executing field medical affairs activities, ensuring strong scientific presence with key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, payers, and opinion leaders. It combines strategic oversight with hands-on leadership of a field-based medical team, supporting evidence generation, data dissemination, and insights collection. The role plays a critical part in bridging clinical science and commercial strategy, ensuring that medical excellence supports both patient outcomes and business priorities. Operating in a highly collaborative environment, it requires close partnership with cross-functional teams and external scientific communities. This is a high-impact position with significant visibility across regional and global medical affairs functions.
- Lead and manage a team of field-based Medical Science Liaisons supporting pharmaceutical and vision care portfolios
- Develop and execute regional KOL mapping strategies and scientific engagement plans
- Oversee investigator-initiated research, clinical studies, and data generation activities
- Ensure strong scientific presence at congresses, advisory boards, and key medical meetings
- Drive medical insights generation through structured customer and stakeholder engagement
- Lead dissemination of scientific data and ensure alignment of messaging across the region
- Conduct scientific exchange with payers to support access and reimbursement strategies
- Coordinate cross-functional collaboration to ensure high-quality execution of medical affairs initiatives
- Support planning and execution of clinical research programs and data collection efforts
- Provide strategic direction, training, and mentorship to medical affairs and MSL teams
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced scientific or clinical degree strongly preferred (MD, DO, OD, PharmD)
- 10+ years of relevant experience in medical affairs, clinical research, or pharmaceutical/biotech environments
- 6+ years of demonstrated leadership experience managing scientific or field-based teams
- Strong clinical or scientific expertise in ophthalmology or related therapeutic areas preferred
- Experience in KOL engagement, medical education, and scientific communications
- Proven track record in clinical research oversight and data generation activities
- Strong understanding of payer engagement and scientific exchange processes
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives in a global or regional matrix environment
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 60%
