About the Role
John W. McDougall (JWM) is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Field Superintendent to oversee the on-site execution of architectural metal and exterior building envelope projects.
This position is responsible for managing daily field operations, coordinating crews and subcontractors, and ensuring all installations are completed safely, accurately, and in full alignment with project specifications.
The Field Superintendent serves as JWM's primary on-site representative, bridging communication between the field, project management team, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day field operations for assigned projects, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and to JWM quality standards.
  • Coordinate and manage installation crews, subcontractors, and job site logistics.
  • Review construction drawings, shop drawings, and project documents to ensure accurate installation.
  • Conduct daily site walks to monitor progress, identify issues, and proactively resolve field challenges.
  • Maintain strong communication with Project Managers, engineers, architects, and general contractors.
  • Enforce job site safety requirements and ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
  • Verify material deliveries, track on-site inventory, and coordinate proper staging and sequencing.
  • Participate in pre-installation meetings, site coordination meetings, and punch list walkthroughs.
  • Drive schedule adherence while maintaining high-quality workmanship and minimizing rework.
Requirements & Qualifications
Construction Experience
  • Minimum of 5+ years of commercial construction experience
  • Preferred background in architectural metals and exterior envelope systems
Education
  • High School Diploma (Required)
Preferred Certifications
  • OSHA 30
  • First Aid / CPR
  • Lull Certification
  • MEWP Certification
  • Scaffolding / Swing Stage
  • Competent Person Training
  • Fall Protection
Field Leadership & Coordination
  • Proven ability to lead field crews and manage complex construction sites
Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, details, and specifications
  • Ability to perform quality control of exterior substrates and dimensional layout
Communication Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with internal teams and external partners
Safety Awareness
  • Strong commitment to job site safety and best practices
Travel Expectations
  • Position based in Nashville, TN
  • Regular travel to active job sites both in-state and out-of-state
  • Potential need for extended periods of time out of town on higher profile projects
