Position Summary

The Quality Lab Supervisor/Chemist will lead the quality control laboratory at Nutritional Resources, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations while serving as a hands-on contributor to testing and analysis. This role combines supervisory responsibilities with technical expertise in analytical chemistry, focusing on maintaining product integrity, equipment functionality, and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented leader with strong analytical skills and experience in nutritional or food product testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily operations of the quality control lab, including management of materials, equipment, and personnel to ensure smooth workflow and accurate results.
  • Schedule and coordinate calibrations, maintenance, and repairs for lab equipment to minimize downtime and maintain compliance with industry standards.
  • Act as a working member of the lab team, directly operating and maintaining advanced analytical instruments such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR).
  • Perform routine and as-needed lab tests, including pH measurements, water activity analysis, Brix refractometry, and other basic quality assessments on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
  • Supervise and train lab technicians, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and fostering a collaborative team environment focused on safety and precision.
  • Analyze test data, identify trends or deviations, and prepare reports to support quality assurance decisions, including product releases and corrective actions.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety regulations (e.g., FDA, GMP, HACCP) and internal quality protocols, conducting audits and implementing process improvements as necessary.
  • Collaborate with production, R&D, and supply chain teams to resolve quality issues and support new product development.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of lab activities, results, and inventory in compliance with record-keeping requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Biochemistry, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a quality control lab within the food, nutraceutical, or pharmaceutical industry, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Proven proficiency in operating and troubleshooting HPLC and FTIR equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with basic lab tests such as pH, water activity, Brix, and other physicochemical analyses.
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems, food safety standards, and regulatory compliance (e.g., FDA 21 CFR Part 111 for dietary supplements).
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to train and motivate a team.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, lab information management systems) and attention to detail in a high-volume testing environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends or shifts, to support manufacturing needs.
