Compensation:
• Employment begins on or about August 1, 2026
• Private on campus apartment (restricted to occupancy by the employee, their legally recognized spouse, and dependent children. Apartment details vary based on location. Occupancy limits are also subject to the number of bedrooms in the assigned apartment)
• Dining allowance: $1,000 Ramapo Dollars (used for meals at Ramapo dining areas)
• Stipend of $10,000 (pro-rated depending on start date; August-May)
• Tuition remission (taxable income, used only for tuition & fees) up to $8,000 per academic year (Fall and Spring
Job Summary:
The Graduate Residence Director (GRD) assists in the overall responsibility for a campus residence area and directly supervises undergraduate paraprofessional staff. The GRD works with students to develop a sense of community in their residence area through educational and social programming, daily student interaction, and active participation in the overall residence life program. The GRD is expected to support the mission of the residence life department as well as the College by being a role model to students, supporting College programs and services, enforcing College policies and procedures, providing leadership during crisis situations and managing the assigned daily operations of their assigned area. The below job description is a general statement of duties and does not specifically cover every task or responsibility that a GRD may have. This is a reasonable attempt to provide an accurate listing of general duties/responsibilities.
Student Related Duties and Responsibilities:
• Works to create community within the assigned residence area
• Interacts with residents and makes themselves readily available to all students
• Provides consultations and referrals to students with academic, behavioral, emotional or physical concerns, as needed
• Be aware of college resources to refer students with academic, career and personal concerns
• Models appropriate behavior and confronts inappropriate behavior of residents
• Enforces college and residence life policies
• Mediates student conflicts
Staff Related Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supervises paraprofessional staff in performance of their duties
• Responsible for ongoing staff development of the para-professional staff
• Responsible for creating a staff team that supports and encourages teamwork and mutual respect
• Monitors and supervises staff and building wide programs based on Residence Life's Community Building model
• Assists with the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of RA staff
• Provides ongoing feedback to RA staff regarding their personal and professional development
• Provides emotional support and motivation for staff members
• Conducts weekly staff meetings and individual meetings with RA staff
• Provides leadership during crisis situations
Administrative Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the assigned daily operations of the residence area
• Maintains weekly scheduled (20) office hours a week (break times are to be scheduled separately)
• Performs administrative tasks delegated by the Area Director/supervisors
• Assists in the supervision of the opening and closing of assigned residence area and coordinates check in and check out procedures
• Serves as a student conduct hearing officer for minor discipline cases
• Supervises and coordinates bi-monthly room inspections
• Chairs a residence life committee or oversees a specialized area
• Keeps communication with student staff as their direct supervisor and holds them accountable
• Monitors and updates building area’s budget
• Keeps complete and accurate information of all residents including building/area rosters. Keeps the main office informed of all room changes and roster updates
• Reports needed maintenance and building repairs. Follows up with Student Assistant Residence Director for all facilities work orders. Reports outstanding unsatisfactory maintenance and housekeeping issues to the Area Director
• Maintains an accurate key inventory (including peg system, office keys with staff (other keys where applicable) and maintaining accurate updated information with Salto lock system.
• Participates in an on-call duty rotation
• Collaborates effectively with other departments/offices
• Collaborates with Public Safety, Facilities, and Housekeeping personnel to assure proper residence hall operations
• Works with Public Safety to educate students on safety and security
Relationship with Area Director
• Meets regularly with Area Director/supervisor
• Keeps Area Director/supervisor informed of all aspects of the residence area and general students’ development issues
• Monitors floor and building related issues and reports them to Area Director/supervisor
• Maintains open communication with Area Director/supervisor regarding the area of responsibility
• Manages other duties as assigned by Area Director/supervisors
Organizational Security Responsibilities: This position requires adherence to the organization's
information security policies and procedures. All employees share responsibility for protecting the
confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the organization’s mission essential IT assets, regardless of
role. Individuals in this role are expected to apply appropriate safeguards, participate in required security
awareness training, and promptly report potential security incidents in accordance with institutional
policies.
Requirements:
• Proof of Bachelor's degree required prior to the start of the position
• Proof of enrollment in a graduate program at the College or another college/university required prior to the start of the position
• Proof of course enrollment and good academic standing each semester
• Register and maintain at least six (6) semester credits of graduate coursework, per semester
• Demonstrate academic progress and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher
• Strong supervisory skills
• Previous residence life or substantial student leadership experience
• Previous administrative experience
• Must live in provided on campus apartment
• Occasional weekend and variable hours required
