About This Position

Purpose of Job:

The Purchasing Manager enhances customer and co-worker experiences by managing a team of buyers and overseeing the purchasing of materials and goods required by the company. This role is essential to ensure the supply chain runs smoothly by working closely with vendors, internal customers and the operations team to ensure timely delivery and industry-leading fill rates.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise and guide a team of purchasing professionals to ensure all purchasing activities meet company requirements and standards
  • Provide training and development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills in purchasing
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the purchasing team, setting clear goals and offering regular feedback to improve team efficiency and performance
  • Help build a strong succession plan within the department
Purchasing Strategy & Operations
  • Lead and manage the end-to-end purchasing process, vendor contact, purchase order creation, and timely delivery of goods
  • Work with internal departments to determine purchasing needs and prioritize purchasing based on demand
  • Review and approve purchase orders, ensuring they align with budget and specifications
  • Track and manage vendor performance, identifying opportunities for cost savings, improved service, or better quality.
  • Ensure consistent and clear communication between suppliers and internal teams to resolve any purchasing-related issues.
Inventory Control & Budget Management
  • Monitor inventory levels, identifying when to reorder materials to maintain production schedules without overstocking
  • Prepare and manage the purchasing budget, ensuring that purchasing costs stay within budgetary constraints
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality or delivery
Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with internal purchasing policies, procedures, and external regulations (e.g., environmental, ethical sourcing)
  • Maintain accurate records of purchasing transactions, ensuring transparency and traceability
  • Prepare and present regular reports on purchasing activities, supplier performance, cost savings, and other key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior leadership
  • Lead efforts to improve purchasing processes, systems, and technology to enhance efficiency

Recommended Qualifications:Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements:
  • Thorough understanding of purchasing principles; including EOQ fundamentals.
  • Ability to consistently model Next’s core values and character expectations listed above
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement best practices, supply chain management, and vendor relations.

  • Strong Problem-Solving Skills
Experience & Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3 years in a procurement or purchasing managerial or leadership role.
  • Familiarity with Info CSD would be an asset
  • Experience using an ERP required
Physical Demands/ Working Conditions:
  • Position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high-pressure situations calmly and effectively
  • This position requires prolonged periods of working at a computer and using a keyboard and mouse
