Site Plan Reviewer at City Of Sandy Springs – Sandy Springs, Georgia
About This Position
The City of Sandy Springs is looking for a detail-oriented, experienced Site Plan Reviewer to join our Community Development team. If you enjoy digging into civil and land development plans, ensuring projects are built right the first time, and collaborating with engineers, designers, and city staff, this role offers a meaningful way to make an impact in a growing community.
This position plays a key role in protecting public safety, ensuring code compliance, and helping projects move smoothly from plan review to construction.
What You’ll Do
As a Site Plan Reviewer, you’ll review civil and land development plans submitted for permits—ranging from private developments to public infrastructure projects. You’ll make sure plans are complete, accurate, and fully compliant with the City’s Development Code, Technical Manual, and applicable FEMA floodplain regulations.
You’ll also serve as a technical resource within the department and may act as a backup to the City Engineer when needed.
Key responsibilities include:
Reviewing civil and land development plans for code compliance and constructability
Verifying that all required engineering documentation (hydrology reports, retaining wall analyses, etc.) is included
Reviewing transportation-related plans for compliance with City standards
Assisting with FEMA floodplain compliance reviews, as needed
Clearly documenting and communicating plan deficiencies to permittees
Working collaboratively with other review disciplines to streamline approvals
Using Bluebeam to annotate plans and provide clear, color-coded review comments
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who brings both technical expertise and strong communication skills—someone who can identify issues, explain them clearly, and help move projects forward.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in a related field (education and experience may be considered in combination)
At least five (5) years of land development plan review or equivalent design experience
Registration as a Professional Engineer (GA) may count for up to four (4) years
Strong knowledge of civil, structural, and environmental engineering principles
Deep understanding of construction methods and development regulations
Experience reviewing a wide range of construction documents
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Level II certification as an erosion and sediment control design professional
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
Why This Role Matters
Every plan you review directly affects how Sandy Springs grows—how roads are aligned, stormwater is managed, neighborhoods are protected, and developments integrate safely into the community. Your work ensures that what’s approved on paper is clearly communicated and built correctly in the field.
