About This Position
The Manager of Server Engineering is responsible for designing, implementing, supporting, managing, and optimizing on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure. This role is responsible for maintaining high availability, scalability, and security of systems while supporting business-critical applications across hybrid environments. This role is responsible for managing a team of engineers, ensuring system reliability, and aligning server operations with business goals.

Manages all activities related to Server Engineering by:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of server engineers and system administrators
- Oversee the design, deployment, and maintenance of physical and virtual server infrastructure
- Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of servers and related systems
- Develop and enforce standards, policies, and best practices for server management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (networking, security, programming, tech services, applications)
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot complex issues
- Ensure compliance with security policies and regulatory requirements
- Oversee backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies
- Manage vendor relationships and evaluate new technologies
- Control budgets related to server infrastructure, storage infrastructure and operations
- Support major IT initiatives and projects, including technology refreshes, site openings/closures, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and security standards, including data protection, access controls, and physical security practices.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts, leveraging ITIL best practices, automation, and process optimization to improve service quality and efficiency.
- Prepare and manage operational budgets related to Server/Storage/Disaster Recovery systems, tools, equipment, and staffing, as applicable.
- Designing and implementing robust backup plans to secure critical databases, files, and applications.
- Utilizing automated tools for daily backups and managing scheduling to ensure no data is missed, deploy alerting systems for failures.
- Regularly testing restore procedures to ensure that backup files are not corrupted and can be used for successful restoration in accordance with best practices. Maintaining offsite and/or cloud-based backups for protection against catastrophic site failures. Lead efforts to deploy immutable backups.
- Create and document retention policies and disaster recovery procedures according to industry best practices and disaster recovery procedures.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
- Define, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as
- Analyze trends and root causes to identify recurring issues and implement corrective or preventative actions.
- Develop, document, and continuously improve team processes aligned with the ITIL framework.
- Maintain and improve the knowledge base to increase efficiency.
- Support organizational change initiatives by preparing the server/systems engineering team for new technologies, systems, and workflows.
- Participating on Beacon IS committees as requested.
- Completing other job-related duties and special projects as directed.

- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patients and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years of experience in server engineering, infrastructure, or systems administration
- 1–3 years of leadership or management experience
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Linux/Unix systems
- Experience with virtualization technologies
- Familiarity with cloud platforms
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and security principles
- Experience with automation tools and scripting tools
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of server/storage computing environments.
- Demonstrated understanding of IT service management practices (ITIL or equivalent), including incident, request, problem, and change management.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop technical staff, with experience in performance management, coaching, and workforce planning.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with users at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to analyze operational metrics and trends, identify improvement opportunities, and implement process and service enhancements.
Working Conditions
- Works in a hybrid office environment; however, work is sometimes performed in small, cramped areas.
- May experience some mental/visual fatigue due to continued use of computer equipment.
Physical Demands
- Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e., to sit, stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time; lift, hold and carry objects weighing up to 30 pounds; use common computer hand tools, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
