Overview
In alignment with scholar leadership programs at NYU, and development of high impact practices that promote student flourishing, this position will work closely with the program director and appointed faculty to co-lead the academic experience, curriculum development, and implementation of related experiential programs for the 4-year student experience. Grounded in the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Associate Director is responsible for curriculum and related program experiential components that engage students in scholarly and diverse perspectives of community engagement, constructive dialog, through the lens of peace and nonviolence frameworks for societal advancement and social change. Support instruction and co-facilitate the management of faculty, community leaders, and scholar/practitioners to lead discussions, lectures, seminars or courses. Oversee related student research, in close collaboration with NYUs Undergraduate Research office. Partner with Wasserman to promote relevant internship opportunities. Provide general advising to promote academic success for MLK Scholars. Lead first-year initiatives and yield events to ensure an effective recruitment and onboarding process for incoming students. Champion the learning, growth, and development of the MLK, Jr. Scholars as they work together to realize Dr. Kings vision of a beloved community at New York University and beyond. Collaborate with the Director to execute new program initiatives and assess their impact; collecting data and creating reports to drive evidence-based decision making. Supervise and coach a graduate student and several undergraduate student employees. Participate in initiatives with all class years and alumni including semesterly events, workshops, travel colloquia, community service, alumni engagements.
Responsibilities
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in higher education, social justice education, leadership studies, or relevant social science
Required Experience:
5+ years professional experience or equivalent combination. Must include working in a university, educational institution, or youth development program; experience working directly with a diverse group of college students. Experience with social justice education and programming; Experience assessing and evaluating student learning and programming.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to set goals and implement strategies for achieving them; Ability to work with diverse student stakeholders; Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels; Commitment to advancing social justice and ensuring the success of underrepresented students
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
An understanding of the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr; Knowledge of student development theories, with a broad understanding of student success literature (academic and co-curricular).
Qualifications
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $100,000.00 to USD $120,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
