Mental Health Professional (MHP) | Swing Shift 12:00pm–8:00pm (Full-Time)
(Psych-experienced RNs encouraged to apply)
Job Description
About the Role
Our Enhanced Services Facilities (ESFs) support adults living with behavioral health challenges in a community-based residential setting. We provide integrated medical, mental health, and housing support with a low resident-to-staff ratio and a resident population that is often younger and more independent than traditional long-term care.
As an MHP, you help residents build stability, strengthen skills, and progress toward goals using person-centered, recovery-oriented practices. Consistency matters here, and teamwork matters even more.
Work Environment
- Low resident ratios with staffing based on unit census. Some shifts operate with a two-person coverage model (MHP and Nurse on Duty) in lower-census areas.
- Training and support to promote a safe, consistent environment
- Meals provided
- Benefits eligible after 60 days (for benefit-eligible roles)
- We prioritize consistent schedules and ask MHPs to work at least one weekend day per week when possible (accommodations considered for special events)
Schedule
- Standard shift: 12:00pm–8:00pm
- Paid meal period provided
- Shift hours remain 12:00pm–8:00pm. During portions of the shift in lower-census areas, coverage may be provided by the MHP and Nurse on Duty team.
- Occasional on-call support may be requested as coordinated by the Administrator
Qualifications
Qualified Mental Health Professionals (MHPs) should demonstrate clinical competence in providing assessment, supportive services, education, and skills coaching to residents, including facilitating structured group meetings in a residential setting.
Minimum Requirements (must meet one):
- Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
- Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA)
- Master’s degree in social work or related field
- Master’s degree in counseling or social services from an accredited college plus supervised experience in direct work with individuals with mental illness
- Psychiatric Nurse (RN) with behavioral health experience
Role Scope and Scheduling (RN Applicants)
This position is hired and scheduled as a Mental Health Professional (MHP) role. RNs who apply for and accept this position will be considered only for MHP duties during their scheduled MHP shifts and will not function as the facility Nurse on Duty, which is staffed separately. If an RN is interested in also working separate nursing shifts, that opportunity may be discussed independently and is entirely optional at the employee’s discretion. Nursing duties are performed only when the RN is specifically scheduled in a nursing role.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily community meetings to support structure, communication, routines, and resident engagement.
- Provide scheduled and as-needed 1:1 resident support focused on skill-building, coping strategies, problem-solving, and goal progress within each resident’s person-centered service plan.
- Support residents with community stabilization, including coaching for emotional regulation, interpersonal conflict, and safety awareness in a residential setting.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop, implement, and update Behavior Support Plans, including clear staff strategies and measurable objectives.
- Coach and support direct care staff on behavioral observation, de-escalation approaches, and consistent responses aligned with resident plans.
- Assist with crisis response and stabilization, including safety planning and coordination with leadership and external resources as needed when a resident presents risk to self or others.
- Coordinate communication with families, external providers, and involved parties (as appropriate and authorized) to support continuity and resident goals.
- Maintain timely, accurate documentation per facility standards, including progress notes, service plan participation, behavior-related documentation, and incident follow-up.
- Assist residents with benefits navigation and agency coordination (for example, Social Security) to support stability and continuity of care.
- Support day-to-day unit operations as part of a hands-on residential team, collaborating with the Nurse on Duty to support basic resident care tasks and maintain a safe, orderly environment.
- Actively participate in clinical team meetings, shift communication, and staff meetings as scheduled.
- Provide occasional on-call support as coordinated by the Administrator (separate from Nurse on Duty coverage).
- Understand and uphold Resident Rights, including mandatory reporting of suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator, consistent with the scope of the role.
