SURVEY TECHNICIAN IV JOB SUMMARY
The Survey Technician IV independently performs field and office surveying tasks and coordinates with project managers, team members, general contractors, and clients. The Survey Technician may manage small survey tasks/projects, schedules, and budgets. There will be occasional overnight travel required in this position.
Survey Technician IV JOB DUTIES
- Performs field and office land surveying services including control, boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveys; conducts related research, plan reviews, and calculations.
- Reviews and analyzes design plans against existing site conditions to identify conflicts; prepares cut sheets, field notes, and supporting documentation.
- Reviews as-built plans, maps, records of survey, right-of-way drawings, deeds, legal descriptions, and other survey records.
- Interprets survey field notes, parcel and tract maps, construction plans, and historical survey documentation including GLO and BLM field notes.
- Utilizes AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, or similar software to prepare survey exhibits, site plans, survey notes, and tentative or record maps.
- Performs precise field measurements and compiles survey evidence used to establish project control and boundary determinations.
- Prepares legal descriptions and exhibits under the direction of a Licensed Land Surveyor.
- May perform and supervise laser scanning, CAD drafting, 3D modeling, and GIS-related tasks.
- Applies surveying principles, field procedures, QA/QC standards, and safety practices to all work activities.
- Coordinates survey activities with regulatory agencies, utility providers, contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders as needed.
- May manage small survey projects and ensure work is completed on schedule and within budget.
- Represents Cannon and its clients in a professional and courteous manner.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in field and office land surveying.
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license not required but highly desirable.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or related field, or California LSIT certification, strongly preferred.
- Valid California Driver’s License, clean driving record, and proof of valid auto insurance required.
- Experience preparing proposals, coordinating with clients, and managing small project budgets.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues, supervisors, clients, and contractors in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of the California Land Surveyors Act, Subdivision Map Act, and applicable state and local land surveying regulations.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, Leica total station, GPS equipment, or similar survey technology.
