About Our Opportunity:

The Family Counselor at Vancouver Family Preservation and Reunification provides services primarily to families that promote healthier family functioning and linkages to community resources. This position provides a variety of parenting education, support and counselling to children and families referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Salary: Starting at GS 13 Step 1 $36.61/ hour per year
Location: 4103 Fraser Street at East King Edward, Vancouver, BC V5V 4E9- with the possibility of working Hybrid; in-home work with families in Vancouver.

What do you need to succeed?
Education, Training, Experience
  • Masters degree in social work or clinical counselling or equivalent education and experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of child welfare policies and practices
  • Working knowledge of different parenting strategies and the ability to share these strategies with families
  • Ability to work with families that may present multiple service needs related to poverty and mental health
  • An understanding of child and adolescent stages of development, as well as addictions, violence, child abuse or neglect, and mental health issues
Additional Requirements
  • Class 5 Driver's License and personal vehicle
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
