Job Title: Cast/DME Coordinator
Department: Clinical Services
Reports To: Cast/DME Manager

Position Summary

The Cast-DME role is responsible for providing superior patient care through the coordination and application of orthopedic braces, casts, and splints.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical background in orthopedic or sports medicine settings, exceptional attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. Working under the direction of the physicians and the Director of Clinical Services.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints, and orthopedic braces as directed by physicians.
  • Educate patients and families on proper care, use, and maintenance of orthopedic devices.
  • Assess and document skin integrity and neurovascular status before and after brace, splint, or cast application.
  • Assist physicians with fracture reductions and minor in-room procedures as needed.
  • Apply dressings and provide additional patient care support as directed.
  • Respond to patient phone calls and messages, documenting all interactions in the EMR.

Program Coordination

  • Coordinate with vendors (e.g., Breg) for product supply and inventory management.
  • Organize and maintain the supply and cast rooms, ensuring cleanliness and order.
  • Monitor and maintain proper functioning of casting equipment and tools.
  • Assist in the introduction and implementation of new orthopedic products and technologies.
  • Coordinate with Vision team regarding software updates and issues.
  • Help resolve complaints or issues with DME products.
  • Ensure workques are being managed timely.
  • Assist with chart note audits and provide feedback to the providers.

Training & Communication

  • Serve as a resource for physicians and staff regarding orthopedic product knowledge.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Participate in staff meetings and quality improvement initiatives.

Professional Development

  • Maintain professionalism and a positive attitude in all interactions.
  • Adapt to changes in procedures, technologies, and workflows as the program evolves.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all clinic policies and compliance standards.
  • Pursue continuing education to enhance job-related knowledge and skills.
Requirements:

Qualifications

Minimum of one (1) year of experience in healthcare preferred.

Experience in orthopedic or sports medicine is preferred.

Strong knowledge of anatomy, fracture classification, and orthopedic bracing/casting materials required.

Proficiency with EMR systems.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.

Regularly required to lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Must have full use of hands, arms, and fingers for equipment operation and patient care.

Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and team members.

Work Environment

Clinical setting with routine exposure to patients, medical equipment, and supplies.

May be exposed to biohazardous materials and communicable diseases.

Must adhere to all organizational safety, infection control, and compliance policies.
