About This Position
The Honorable Kristina Pickering of the Nevada Supreme Court is currently accepting applications for law clerkships starting in Summer/Fall 2026. As a law clerk, you'll work directly with Justice Pickering, assisting in processing appeals and writ petitions. Your tasks will include legal research, drafting bench memos, assisting in argument preparation and case dispositions, and preparing draft orders and opinions.
Clerkships are available for one year and are based in Las Vegas, where Justice Pickering maintains her chambers.
Please note that the role may require occasional holiday, night, and weekend work, as well as periodic travel to and from Carson City.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience at the highest level of Nevada's judiciary.
Examples of Essential Duties:
- Review cases assigned to chambers
- Conduct necessary legal research
- Prepare concise, well organized bench memos, opinions, and orders
- Handle original petitions and petitions for rehearing
- Edit own work product and that of co-clerks
- Review pending draft dispositions
- Keep abreast of decisions from other courts that may be applicable to pending Nevada cases
- Carefully proofread orders and opinions
- Attend oral arguments
- Assist in pardons board review work
Qualifications:
- Must have graduated with a Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school by the start of the clerkship, preferably in the top 20%.
- Law review or other journal experience is desirable.
- Law clerks must possess exceptional legal research and writing abilities, must be flexible, and must be motivated to work independently to produce high quality work in a fast-paced appellate environment.

Please note the posted salary is based on the Employee/Employer paid contribution plan to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). The posted salary is subject to a 19.25% reduction as this amount is paid into PERS. This is refundable upon the end of employment.
