Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Develops and maintains age-appropriate curriculum for children from ages 6 weeks to 10 years. Accepts responsibility for managing and nurturing children of all ages served according to the DCFS License approved for the child development center. Maintains effective parent communication skills. Serves as role model to children and prepares them for future education endeavorers. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and education experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives. Strong organizational skills and planning skills.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Associate’s Degree or sixty credit hours from an accredited college or university which must include six credit hours in courses related directly to child care/child development, from birth to age six is required.
- OR in lieu of Associate’s Degree and sixty credit hours, one year of relevant child development experience and 30 credit hours is required.
- OR Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) is required.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
DCFS clearance/Background Check of Finger Printing Network. First Aid Certification and Heart saver pediatric first aid certification within 90 days of hire.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Demonstrates active support for development of premier early childhood education program with compliance of The Department of Children and Family Services standards. Clear understanding of hands-on, developmentally practices. Successful completion of DCFS required training, annual competencies, and skill verifications. Ability to establish effective working relationships with families, all levels of staff and the public.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for recording and maintaining developmental records for each child assigned to classroom. Seeks newest and most effective measures for documentation that provides accurate and timely information for the parents and families as well as next-level educators. Timely communication provided to the parent families by the Teachers through the use of various communication methods. Conducts Parent/Teacher conferences.
- Facilitates integration of Child Development Center programs for enrolled children and families. Incorporates the most inventive and interactive projects encouraging all students to explore and build on solid knowledge already obtained.
- Actively maintains classroom cleanliness and provides a safe children’s environment. Teaches the students of the center by example to enthusiastically preserve the indoor and outdoor play areas.
- Effectively communicates across the UWNI network of supportive departments in order to establish and maintain high quality in Child Development Center programs.
