About This Position

JOB TITLE: Registration/check-out and check-in

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To greet patients, verify demographic and insurance information collect copays and have all appropriate forms signed. Offer patients friendly and prompt assistance while coordinating the patients care.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normally works 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday with a scheduled lunch every day.
  • May require paid overtime before and/or after normal working hours.
  • Works in well-lighted and well-ventilated office.
  • Expected to adhere to general office policy.
  • Will not be exposed to blood and body fluids.
  • Will spend majority of the day in front of computer terminal entering data, using telephone, faxes, copiers, and printers.
  • Subject to frequent interruption.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a high school graduate or GED
  • Must have 2 years of customer service experience
  • Must have general computer knowledge.
  • Must have basic typing skills.
  • Must have good health as demonstrated by infrequent absenteeism.
  • Must have ability to communicate well with a variety of clients in mature, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Must be able to function independently and accurately with frequent interruptions.
  • TASKS:

  • Greets consumers in a pleasant professional manner.
  • Verifies demographic, referring physician and insurance information over the telephone or in person.
  • Correctly identifies insurances that need precertification or authorization and ensure that it is obtained.
  • Must collect copays from patients. (See policy on money handling.)
  • Must verify correct amount of cash in drawer upon opening and close out cash drawer in evening.
  • Must correctly schedule tests at appropriate site.
  • Must notify appropriate staff when supplies are low for recording purposes.
  • Relieve designated staff re: telephone operator, scheduling,
  • Make sure appropriate forms are completed.
  • Keep an eye on waiting room for supplies and neatness.
  • Distributes patient lists at beginning of day.
  • Must see that drug cabinets are unlocked in the morning and locked at night.
  • Research death notices and enters into the computer system.
  • Will review the providers orders to determine the necessary treatment plan.
  • Either appointments are scheduled, or arrangements are made for diagnostic testing
  • Dictations are sent to the referring and primary care doctors and the clinical summaries are exported out.
  • recalls are made
  • Precertification’s for procedures are sent to the precertification team.
  • Helps cover outside offices for vacations, FMLA, etc. limited travel
