About This Position

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for managing various engineering projects from concept, prototype development to launch. Mechanical design used to support the integration and test of magnetic pulse systems. Create/update layout drawings, fabrication drawings and engineering change orders, give design review presentations and perform some fundamental analysis. Other tasks will include manufacturing engineering liaison support, hardware testing and supporting integration and test operations.

PRIMARY RESPONSABILITIES

• Design mechanical setups and fixturing, prepare CAD layouts and manufacturing drawings with full and accurate documentation

• Develop designs and details from initial concepts and sketches provided

• Selecting appropriate materials for the assemblies designed

• Plan, build and install prototypes and perform studies in the workshop, leveraging test data to understand and develop design optimization

• Identify and implement process and product improvements

• Develop project plans to bring product and system designs into production

• Collaborate with external partners (inventors, developers, higher education establishments and customers)

• Generate reports, technical documentation, design reviews, and analyses

• Manage the prototyping and analysis lab (micrography equipment, 3D printer ...)

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering required

• Deep working knowledge in SolidWorks (SolidWorks PDM administration a plus)

• Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in the advanced manufacturing industry

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in designing tooling and fixturing for the automotive industry

• Minimum travel requirement for training purposes

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

• Start-up operation: successful candidate will be expected to take part in all areas, including hands-on tasks in the workshop

• Strong problem-solving skills

• Knowledge of GD&T and experience with design control under ISO standards

• Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently and to produce quality work under tight timelines

• Positive and creative attitude

• Excellent written and verbal proficiency with strong interpersonal skills

• Desire to learn and take on additional responsibilities as needed

• Exposure to a multi-cultural, international environment a must

• Field experience dealing with customers a plus

• Experience in value engineering or lean manufacturing an advantage
