About the Role:
The Canadian Tax Consultant plays a critical role in providing expert guidance on Canadian tax laws and regulations to individuals and businesses. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and provincial tax requirements while optimizing tax strategies to minimize liabilities. The consultant will analyze financial information, prepare tax returns, and offer strategic advice on tax planning and risk management. They will serve as a trusted advisor, keeping clients informed of changes in tax legislation and helping them navigate complex tax scenarios. Ultimately, the role aims to deliver accurate, timely, and compliant tax solutions that support clients' financial goals and regulatory obligations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional designation such as CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) or equivalent.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial tax laws and regulations.
- Proven experience preparing and filing Canadian tax returns for individuals and corporations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with tax software such as TaxCycle, ProFile, or similar platforms.
- Additional certifications in tax specialization (e.g., Canadian Tax Foundation courses).
- Experience working with cross-border tax issues and international tax treaties.
- Familiarity with GST/HST and payroll tax regulations.
- Excellent communication skills in both English and French.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review individual and corporate tax returns in accordance with Canadian tax laws and regulations.
- Conduct detailed tax research and analysis to provide clients with up-to-date advice on tax planning opportunities and compliance requirements.
- Advise clients on tax implications of business decisions, investments, and transactions to optimize tax efficiency.
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to gather necessary financial data and documentation for accurate tax reporting.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and communicate relevant updates and strategies to clients.
- Assist in resolving tax audits, disputes, and inquiries with tax authorities.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and personalized service.
