Job Description
Allendale Columbia School (AC) seeks a collaborative and creative teacher to be part of AC’s Lower School team. The person who is hired for this position will work collaboratively with other teachers, specialists, and the Head of Lower School to provide a strong inquiry-based, Reggio-inspired, student-centered program. The ability to assess and address individual needs in foundational skills and facilitate inquiry-based learning are qualities that the successful candidate will possess. This full-time appointment will begin for the 2026-2027 school year.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Teaching a Lower School class in collaboration with another teacher;
- Working in collaboration with the Head of Lower School, other teachers, specialists, and staff members to ensure curriculum alignment and appropriate implementation of student-centered learning;
- Effectively communicating with parents, AC leadership, faculty, and staff about student needs and progress;
- Reporting on student progress through conferences, written reports, and regularly scheduled data meetings;
- Other responsibilities include: participation in lunch with students, assisting with dismissal, and attending faculty and curriculum writing/planning meetings.
- Additional duties assigned by the Head of Lower School
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred);
- Minimum of two years of experience teaching lower/elementary school-level students;
- Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with parents and the greater community;
- Must have a passion for inquiry-based, student-centered programs
- Expertise in individualized learning for a diverse community of learners;
- An understanding of a co-teaching and collaborative work environment;
- Demonstrate proficiency using digital and online platforms;
- Be a team player willing to try innovative and creative ways to bring excitement to learning in the classroom.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift and carry up to 40 pounds as needed.
- Bend, kneel, crouch, and sit on the floor comfortably during activities with children.
- Move freely throughout the classroom and playground to engage with students and support their needs.
- Perform physical activities for extended periods of time as part of daily routines and interactions.
This is a 10-month position
