Performs a variety of painting, stripping, preparation, redecoration, and related duties.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Prepares surfaces of areas to be painted including patching, taping, sand-papering and applying primer. Tapes and seals dry walls after construction and prior to painting. Places putty or other types of fillers in cracks, holes in walls, and ceilings prior to painting. Blends, mixes, and/or thins paints and other materials used according to specifications or as directed. Paints all surfaces such as wood, plaster, metals, plastic, formica and other materials. Applies correct finish to all surfaces. Sets up staging or erects scaffolding and rigs up ladders as required.
2. Ensures use of proper agents in paints, colors, oils, etc., to obtain desired tone and color. Thins paints to maintain desired texture and consistency. Applies paint by brush or roller under adequate ventilation. Applies finish coat as required.
3. Finishes surfaces by application of a stain or shellac. Performs refinishing duties on woodwork, doors, furniture, fixtures, etc. as directed. Paints signs, windows, door frames and makes minor repairs to plaster areas and baseboards as required.
4. Cleans brushes, rollers, and other equipment. Follows standard safety requirements, taking adequate precautions to protect guests’ equipment, furniture, etc.
5. Maintains all required records. Records all work not assigned on maintenance work log on computer system. Completes work slips. Orders and maintains assigned supplies.
II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. One to three years of experience.
2. Ability to read, write and follow prescribed procedures.
3. Able to estimate areas and compute quantities.
4. Work from specifications and/or instructions.
Preferred:
1. Basic computer skills helpful.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
