Position Title: Transportation Aide – Patient Transportation Department

Compensation: Starting at $16.60hr (union)

Position Summary
Provide safe and efficient transportation of patients and materials throughout the hospital. The ideal candidate will have the following.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
1. Transports patients between departments as assigned, verifying the patient(s) identification by
checking the ID band before any transport takes place. Notifies the nurse or unit secretary of
the patient's movement before leaving the unit and upon returning. Informs the patient of
transportation plans and assures their comfort as possible while in the process of
transportation.
2. Seeking qualified help in moving non-ambulatory patients. Observes all safety rules and
practices good transportation safety, including IV line and oxygen cannister troubleshooting to
avert dislodgement and / or entanglement.
3. Assumes responsibility for the placement of linens, carts, and wheelchairs before transport with
proper removal and disposal of used or soiled linens after transport assignments.
4. Follows all infection control and isolation procedures as designated by hospital policy and
assumes responsibility for cleaning department equipment. Reports malfunctioning and/or
unsafe equipment to the supervisor.
5. Reports delays in transportation assignments to the floor and/or department.
Marginal Functions (list in order of importance)
Performs both essential and marginal job functions in a safe manner as identified by Saint Anthony
Hospital and the respective department while adhering to the Hospital’s confidentiality norms and
standards. Actively and consistently demonstrates the core values of Saint Anthony Hospital in all
interactions with others.
Assumes responsibility for knowing and maintaining established hospital and departmental
objectives, policies/procedures including general sanitation, safety, environmental and infection
control standards.
Participates in performance activities including problem identification, data collection, solution
selection, implementation and evaluation. Also assists in the care and maintenance of
departmental equipment and supplies as appropriate.
Participates in staff meetings and others in services, meetings or committees as required.
Work Experience
1 to 3 years of housekeeping experience.
Position Qualifications
- Excellent observation skills, analytical thinking, problem-solving, able to communicate and interact with all levels of professionals, plus good verbal communication.
- Able to work independently as well as interdependently with many levels of staff
- Ability to adjust priorities quickly, organize multiple tasks simultaneously
- Previous experience working in a hospital setting
