PURPOSE/SUMMARY:
The VDC BIM Lead – Thermal plays a pivotal leadership role within our VDC Service Group. In this position, you will ensure effective workload distribution, seamless coordination of modeling tasks, and strong interdepartmental communication.
You will serve as a technical expert in Thermal Design, a mentor to VDC team members, and a key liaison between Project Managers, Detail Managers, clients, and internal teams. This role blends advanced BIM expertise, leadership, education, and construction knowledge to drive project success and maintain ISAT’s high standards of quality and innovation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interdepartmental Communication & Leadership
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the VDC Manager, Project Managers (PMs), Detail Managers (DMs), clients, and internal teams
- Proactively identify and resolve project conflicts to maintain momentum
- Facilitate meetings and confidently speak in front of project teams and clients
- Provide leadership in modeling oversight, scheduling, and team performance
- Deliver feedback on standards, workflows, and business practices to senior management
- Support individual performance reviews and coordinate team evaluations
- Thermal Design Expertise
- Demonstrate expert-level knowledge in Thermal Design and Thermal terminology
- Model new scopes of work including views, layouts, filters, and system configurations
- Ensure proper use of naming conventions for all thermal-related content
- Install and troubleshoot thermal-specific tools in Revit
- Create and export .pcf files
- Manage VDC Leads for upcoming projects and provide status updates
- Maintain expert knowledge of ISAT and PSD manuals, details, and internal workflows
- Ensure clash-free models and evaluate constructability of thermal bracing and supports
- Communicate directly with customers and attend meetings as needed
- Task Coordination & Project Management
- Coordinate model syncing, task completion, and project milestones
- Ensure accurate and timely project data entry within NEXUS
- Use communication and coordination platforms to track task performance
- Communicate issues immediately with PMs and DMs to ensure rapid resolution
- Provide project direction and delegation for third-party models
- Education & Team Development
- Provide foundational VDC Service Group education to new hires
- Deliver advanced-level training to experienced team members
- Support VDC Specialist I, II, and III team members with technical challenges and workflow improvements
- Technical & Industry Proficiency
- Maintain advanced knowledge of Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam, BIMTrack, and BIM360
- Audit, compact, and manage model synchronization backups
- Conduct peer checks and ensure adherence to industry standards and best practices
- Apply knowledge of building codes including IFC, UFC, and CBC
- Recognize proper application of LEAN and LEED construction principles
- Demonstrate familiarity with ISAT hardware and engineered solutions
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in structural steel estimating or related VDC/steel construction role
- Strong proficiency in Tekla Power Fab, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience reviewing 3D models and construction documents
- Solid understanding of AISC detailing and steel estimating standards
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Team-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving
