Summary:

A Welding Engineering Intern supports technical staff by developing welding procedures (WPS), analyzing weld quality (NDT/DT), updating technical documentation, and optimizing manufacturing processes. Involving hands-on lab work, ensuring compliance with code standards (ASME/AWS), and troubleshooting production issues

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibilities listed below are not intended to be all-inclusive.

  • Maintains a safe, clean and organized work area.
  • Assisting to develop safe welding processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing welding methods and equipment, interfacing with equipment suppliers.
  • Helping to maintain reliable and safe welding systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs, and changeovers.
  • Developing welding processes to meet product requirements and tests manufacturing methods while developing training and evaluation guideline for assembly technicians.
  • Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
  • Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services, following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures, requesting special service when required.
  • Research and create new methods of welding processes and make recommendations to achieve maximum production capacity and efficiency.
  • Participate, as needed in cross, functional new product design teams, providing product and process design expertise necessary to ensure manufacturability.
  • Assist with designing and verification of weld fixtures manual welding.
  • Involved with welding robot programming.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess basic math skills.
  • Two (2) year degree in Industrial Engineering/Manufacturing, Welding Technology or related field strongly preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in a welding role (preferred)
  • Experience in and working knowledge of industrial welding automation and controls with an emphasis on robotic arc welding and off-line programming and simulation.
  • Certification in a Welding standard such as ASME BPVE VIII or ASME/AWS-CWI or ASME CWI/E helpful but not required.
  • AutoCAD or Mechanical Desktop experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret the English language.
  • Associate must have the ability to communicate internally and externally effectively and efficiently.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Ability to use computers and prefer at least one year of experience with MRP II software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent use of hands that comes with the use of tools. 
  • Agility of the upper and lower body extremities with the ability to reach, crouch, kneel, or stoop. 
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time. 
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds without assistance.

Additional Job Information:

The environment is active and fast-paced, collaborative manufacturing or lab environment, splitting time between the office and shop floor. They assist engineers with developing welding procedures (WPS/PQR), optimizing processes, conducting quality inspections, and troubleshooting
