About the role
- Havenwood Academy is seeking a dedicated professional to serve as an Academic Intervention Specialist/Teacher. This crucial position is designed to maximize student outcomes by transforming In-School Suspension and stabilization into an academic intervention, providing specialized support for credit-deficient and post-diploma students, and expanding our essential Academic program.
What you'll do
- Key Responsibilities
A. Student Intervention & Support (ISS, Credit Recovery, Post-High)
- Academic Oversight: Provide differentiated instruction, direct tutoring, and intervention to ensure students assigned to ISS/Treehouse complete assigned schoolwork and maintain academic progress.
- Targeted Support: Offer concentrated academic assistance to students needing heavy credit recovery and those who have completed their high school diploma but require ongoing programmatic work (e.g., driver’s ed, life skills, college/career readiness).
- Case Management: Communicate regularly with classroom teachers, administrators, and staff regarding student behavior, academic progress, and readiness to return to the general school environment.
- Data Collection: Track and analyze student data (e.g., assignment completion rates, re-assignment rates) to measure the effectiveness of the support program.
B. GED Program Instruction
- Curriculum Delivery: Instruct adult learners in all four core subjects of the GED exam: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematical Reasoning.
- Individualized Learning: Assess incoming students' academic levels, create personalized study plans, and target areas of weakness to improve outcomes.
- Testing Readiness: Conduct practice tests, teach effective test-taking strategies, and advise students on the official GED testing process.
Qualifications
- Experience in differentiated instruction, tutoring, and academic intervention.
- Familiarity with the GED curriculum and testing process is highly desirable.
- Strong classroom management skills, particularly in working with students with behavioral needs.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and data analysis skills.
- A licensed teacher is preferred, but the position is open to unlicensed candidates who can function as a skilled tutor.
- Self-Motivated, able to work independently and help create and implement a new system based on the individual needs of the students.
- Skilled in collaborating with the whole team, connecting frequently with the Core teachers in order to best support every student.
