Job Description:
The City of Chesapeake is accepting applications for a Summer 2026 Internship (May 4 – August 7, 2026) with the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Planning Division.

The intern will gain valuable skills by assisting with park and recreational facility project planning, development and implementation.

Key Learning:
  • Assist in preparing various specifications, designs, reports, charts, maps, site plans, spreadsheets, presentations, and other documentation related to development of long and short-term projects.
  • Researches available resources, collects data and analyzes facts in order to assist with completing planning and project assignments.
  • Assist with preparing master plans, conceptual plans, reports/correspondences and other documentation to provide planning support for facilities, projects and assignments. Performs routine office tasks.
  • Researches, establishes, identifies and enforces property boundaries and easements.
  • Assist staff, other departments, community organizations and the general public with general facility planning tasks.
  • Assists with documenting and inventory of historical and other pertinent data and reporting related to Department resources, projects, properties, leases, facilities and open spaces.



Required Qualifications:
Students participating in the Internship Program will be responsible for :
  • Providing their own transportation to and from work,
  • Arriving at the work site at the time designated by the work site supervisor.
  • Performing the tasks assigned by the vocational instructor/coordinator and the work site supervisor in an efficient manner.
  • Demonstrating honesty, punctuality, courtesy, a cooperative attitude, appropriate dress, and a willingness to learn.
  • Conforming to the guidelines of the internship work site.

Must be a college student in good academic standing who is majoring in, or a recent college graduate (i.e., within one year of graduation) in graphic design, digital marketing, learning and development or related fields.
