ABOUT THE POSITION:

Brooklyn Grange, the world's leading soil-based rooftop farming, events, and intensive green roof business, seeks passionate and organized bartenders to provide standout beverage and customer experience at our events venue atop our rooftop farm in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The beverage program serves mostly private events, along with some public ticketed events, and centers on farm-to-table beverages.

Bartenders will help with most aspects of day-of beverage service for our events including: helping prep garnish, distributing batched beverages for serving, and assisting with other beverage service items; following internal protocols and best practices for setup and breakdown of bar; providing professional and welcoming bartending at events; facilitating positive and safe guest experience; and complying with all DOH and SLA laws and regulations.

Our bartenders should be personable and excellent communicators, who can multi-task and calmly maintain beverage service in a fast paced environment. They should be team players, possessing excellent customer service. They genuinely enjoy hosting people and are respectful in all interactions with colleagues, guests, and partner organizations, and take pride in upholding Brooklyn Grange's culture of positivity, friendliness, respect, and professionalism. Bartenders will report to the Beverage Manager, with additional oversight and support from Bar Captains, Event Captains and the Programming & Events Operations Manager.

SCHEDULE:

Bartenders will work part time throughout the Season, roughly from April through November, with opportunities to work more as the season ramps up during late Summer through early Fall.

Thursday - Sunday evening shifts regularly anticipated during our primary events season and most hours skewing to the weekends. Additional daytime prep or inventory shifts may be scheduled as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide efficient, professional, and high quality beverage service at all events and programs.
  • Execute in-house beverage program protocols and help update systems as-needed. Be meticulous about best practices and implementing regulatory requirements.
  • Set up, execute, breakdown, and maintain a clean and organized bar, and provide gracious yet efficient beverage service.
  • Support Bar Captain and Beverage Manager in executing our Beverage Program’s brand and mission of providing high quality, affordable farm-to-glass wine, beer, cider, spirits and non-alcoholic drinks.
  • Be comfortable preparing batch cocktails and assisting with other beverage preparations when necessary. Assist Beverage Manager with expedited beverage and bar prep for upcoming events.
  • Create a positive and safe guest experience. Welcome guests, answering questions about Brooklyn Grange -- act as a “brand ambassador.”
  • Maintain a professional, helpful presence and enforce farm policies without negatively affecting guest experience.
  • Collaborate with other departments as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the business, to maintain an aesthetically driven, functional, and welcoming space, and to find opportunities for support and synergy across the company.

  • Has knowledge of and can comfortably prepare classic cocktails.
  • Is detail oriented, being thorough and precise in all aspects of workflow and beverage preparation.
  • Can set up and break down a bar, can follow best service practices.

  • Can take direction and work collaboratively, helping to maintain positive morale alongside team.
  • Is a consummate people-person and can thoughtfully and respectfully represent the dynamic events by Brooklyn Grange.
