Mechanic – Hydrovac & Heavy Equipment
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Mechanic specializing in hydrovac trucks, with occasional responsibilities involving heavy equipment maintenance and repair. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and optimal performance of our fleet and equipment through preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and timely repairs.
Rate of Pay - $38.00 - $43.00 per hour
Work Location – 12529 CR 38, Platteville, CO 80651 & Necessary worksites off site
Key Responsibilities
Hydrovac & Diesel Fleet Maintenance
- Maintain service operations by inspecting, troubleshooting, and performing preventive maintenance on hydrovac trucks and related equipment.
- Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues on a variety of diesel trucks and trailers.
- Conduct emergency/unscheduled repairs and perform scheduled service in accordance with maintenance standards.
- Other Duties as assigned
Heavy Equipment Repair
- Maintain and repair heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, dozers, forklifts, trucks, and skid steers (preferred but not required).
- Perform mechanical and electrical system repairs; replace faulty parts and components.
- Respond to operator feedback, conduct regular inspections, and ensure all equipment remains in safe, working condition.
Hydraulic & Small Engine Work
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems.
- Perform small engine repair on tampers, pumps, and similar equipment.
Shop Operations & Preventive Maintenance
- Maintain shop tools and equipment by following operating procedures and performing routine upkeep.
- Troubleshoot breakdowns and ensure shop supplies are stocked and maintained.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.
Safety & Compliance
- Comply with OSHA Safety and Health regulations and company safety standards.
- Use required PPE (safety glasses, hard-toe boots, hi-vis vest, and any additional protective equipment as needed).
- Protect company confidential and proprietary information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience & Skills
- 3+ years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or Diesel Mechanic.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems.
- Knowledge of motor vehicle and equipment safety standards.
- Working knowledge of the Hydrovac Industry preferred.
- Ability to work independently, multitask, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must be able to perform physical tasks including lifting 50 lbs, bending, standing for extended periods, climbing, reaching, twisting, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet urgent deadlines.
Licenses & Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License (Required)
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (Preferred)
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Willingness to travel up to 25% (Preferred)
- Reliable attendance and schedule adherence
Physical & Safety Requirements
This position requires the proper use of personal protective equipment, including:
- Safety glasses
- Hard-toe work boots
- High-visibility safety vest
- Additional PPE as required based on task or working environment
