You can help us with that mission in the pre-registration department as a Pre-registration Representative. Your pleasant, friendly demeanor will set the tone as you contact patients and family members to complete pre-registration and other documents, help patients understand their liability, promptly return patient phone calls and inform patients of important items to bring to their procedures.
Responsibilities
- Contacts patients and/or family members to complete pre-registration of demographic/visit information and documents outcomes per documentation standards.
- Informs patient of estimated patient liability within regulatory required timelines and collects appropriate co-payments, coinsurances, deposits and payments over the phone.
- Returns patient phone calls, answers patient inquiries regarding logistical information, informs patients of critical items to bring to the procedure.
- Completes assigned administrative and downtime activities.
- Works in collaboration with most Revenue Cycle departments and scheduling departments to create accurate medical and financial records.
- Collects and provides required legal documentation to meet State and Federal compliance regulations.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- A minimum of two years college education including satisfactory completion of college level Health Records coursework preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of one year of healthcare experience or equivalent education in at least one of the following areas required:
- Pre-Registration
- Admitting
- Patient Access
- Applicable clerical support experience
- Six months customer service experience required.
- Previous registrar and third-party payer experience preferred.
- An understanding of health plan and benefit structures preferred.
Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in the English language
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision, exercising independent judgment within stated guidelines
- Strong written and verbal communication, and demonstrated effective interpersonal skills which promote cooperation and teamwork
- Ability to withstand varying job pressures and organize/prioritize related job tasks
- Ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time
- Excellent public relations skills and demonstrated ability to communicate in calm, succinct, business-like manner
- Ability to interact with people in stressful situations
- Ability to identify alternative means of communication as needed
- Ability to adapt to change
- Net typing of 40 WPM and PC based computer skills
- Familiarity with 10 key
- Knowledge of medical terminology
