The Information Literacy & AI Librarian supports the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into information literacy instruction, research support, and student learning initiatives. The position focuses on strengthening students' abilities to critically evaluate AI-generated content, understand ethical and academic integrity considerations, and use emerging technologies effectively in academic contexts.


Working collaboratively with the Instructional Technologies Librarian and other library colleagues, this position contributes to the evaluation and instructional application of AI tools that support teaching and learning. The librarian partners with faculty to develop course-aligned instructional materials and embed information literacy and AI-related competencies into coursework in alignment with the SUNY General Education Information Literacy Core Competency.

This position will also serve as liaison librarian to one of the Schools at the college (such as the School of Business and Entrepreneurial Studies), based on the candidate's expertise and the library's needs. The librarian acts as the main point of contact between members of the School (faculty, students, and staff) and the library and is responsible for coordinating the library's engagement, instruction, course-aligned collection development, and research services for that School.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops and delivers course-integrated information literacy instruction that addresses critical evaluation of AI-generated content, ethical AI use, and responsible research practices.
  • Collaborates with faculty and the library instruction team to integrate information literacy and AI-related competencies into coursework and assignments in alignment with institutional and SUNY General Education Information Literacy outcomes.
  • Provides research consultations for students and faculty on information literacy, AI use in academic contexts, and responsible engagement with emerging technologies.
  • Designs and facilitates workshops and instructional sessions focused on ethical AI use, academic integrity, and the effective use of AI tools in support of research and learning.
  • Works in partnership with the Instructional Technologies Librarian to explore, evaluate, and support the instructional use of AI tools and related technologies.
  • Stays informed about developments in AI and information literacy to inform instructional practices and student support services.
  • Evaluates and curates library resources, including digital tools and databases, to support coursework, research needs, and responsible AI use.
  • Promotes ethical AI use and academic integrity through outreach, programming, and campus partnerships.
  • Collaborates with library colleagues, IT, and other institutional departments to integrate AI-driven solutions into library services.
  • Participates in campus discussions related to AI and student learning, representing the library's instructional perspective in collaboration with library leadership and colleagues.

General Librarian Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with library colleagues and faculty in assigned liaison departments to integrate library resources and services into coursework and the curriculum.
  • Supports the library's general information literacy instruction program; works with faculty in assigned liaison departments to support information literacy outcomes in face-to-face, web-enhanced, hybrid, and online courses.
  • Contributes to a repository of reusable, adaptable learning objects (i.e., subject and course guides, instructional videos, etc.) to support information literacy efforts and student learning.
  • Provides reference and research support services, both face-to-face and virtually.
  • Collaborates with departmental colleagues on library-wide assessment efforts.
  • Participates in MCC, local, state, and national committees.
  • Occasional night and weekend coverage required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Experience delivering course-integrated information literacy instruction in higher education.
  • Strong understanding of AI applications in teaching, learning, digital literacy, and course-integrated research support.
  • Familiarity with ethical considerations in AI, including bias, misinformation, and academic integrity.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty or academic partners to support student learning outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an academic library, preferably in a community college setting.
  • Knowledge of AI tools such as ChatGPT and other generative AI platforms, as they relate to instruction, research support, and digital literacy.
  • Experience with learning management systems (e.g., D2L) and instructional technologies.
  • Experience integrating AI-related concepts into information literacy instruction or curriculum design.
  • Experience working collaboratively with instructional technologies or academic support units.
  • Familiarity with the assessment of student learning related to information literacy or digital literacy outcomes.
  • Experience developing reusable instructional materials (e.g., research guides, tutorials, online learning objects).
  • Evidence of professional engagement related to information literacy, digital literacy, or emerging academic technologies.
  • Experience in liaison librarianship, including collection development and discipline-specific instruction.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish or other languages proficiently.


Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity, and college budget. This position has a range of $59,800 to $66,700 and is based on the factors mentioned.

Occasional travel between campus buildings or to other local or out-of-town locations for meetings or conferences may be required.
