About This Position

The Lead Quality Technician is responsible for performing detailed visual and dimensional inspections of supplier material and in-house production parts to verify conformance to manufacturing requirements. This position maintains the core day-to-day responsibilities of a Quality Technician while also serving as a lead resource for technician training, nonconforming product disposition, inspection consistency, and support of quality systems activities. Candidates must demonstrate attention to detail, sound judgment, high integrity, self-motivation, and a commitment to maintaining high quality standards.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand and use measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Perform detailed visual and dimensional inspection of supplier material and production parts.
  • Document QA inspection activities at receiving, in-process, final, and testing stages to assure conformance to specifications and procedural requirements.
  • Audit manufacturing processes to verify compliance to requirements and proper segregation of product.
  • Maintain and update inspection logs, records, and other quality documentation as required.
  • Initiate nonconformance reports and support investigation, documentation, and timely closure.
  • Review and disposition nonconforming product in accordance with established procedures and authority levels.
  • Escalate significant or recurring quality issues to Quality Management as needed.
  • Serve as a lead resource for quality technicians on shift by answering questions, providing guidance, and helping ensure inspection consistency.
  • Train new and existing technicians on inspection methods, documentation practices, defect identification, and use of measuring equipment.
  • Support onboarding and training effectiveness by verifying competency and reinforcing standard inspection practices.
  • Assist with maintaining technician scorecards, inspection tracking, and other departmental performance records.
  • Support accuracy and maintenance of quality-related data and documentation, including inspection forms, and related records as applicable.
  • Monitor compliance to department policies, procedures, methods, and techniques and help reinforce expectations on the production floor.
  • Support containment activities, sorting, reinspection, and line clearance or product hold activities when needed.
  • Communicate quality concerns clearly across shifts and help maintain continuity of information between technicians and management.
  • Assist manager and department staff with administrative support activities such as filing, copying, data entry, and record organization.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring inspection issues, documentation gaps, or process weaknesses and bringing them forward for action.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

JOB SKILLS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Prior experience in inspection of precision components strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret dimensional drawings, work instructions, and specifications.
  • Strong working knowledge of basic measuring tools and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to reason through nonconformances and make sound decisions within established guidelines.
  • Ability to train others and communicate expectations clearly and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge of basic math through algebra level is required.
  • Basic computer skills including Word and Excel, with willingness to learn additional systems including PLEX or other ERP/QMS tools.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while also taking initiative and leading day-to-day activities.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to serve as a steady resource for the team.
