POSITION SUMMARY

The Volunteer Engagement Manager (VEM) is essential to helping United Way of Salt Lake realize its mission to mobilize people and resources to improve basic needs and education outcomes for Utah kids and families. They develop, manage, and implement high-quality impactful volunteer projects that engage thousands of volunteers. This looks like taking a leadership role in executing programming around longstanding volunteer events and helping to expand opportunities to meaningfully engage volunteers to achieve our goal of 100% of Utah families thriving. In addition, they will be a key thought partner in building a blueprint to harness the incredible power or corporate volunteerism.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Year of Action Event Management

  1. Plan and execute volunteer and in-kind donation opportunities for Read Across America Day (March), Stuff the Bus (August), and Season of Service (November-December).
  2. Support Volunteer Engagement Director in ordering and conducting site visits for Day of Caring projects.
  3. Co-lead the Year of Action Committee consisting of business, school, and nonprofit partners.
  4. Collaborate on developing new events to meet emerging needs across the community.
  5. Strategize on volunteer recruitment communications and reaching new audiences.
  6. Manage event budgets, ordering, and accurate accounting of all expenses.
  7. This position may supervise AmeriCorps members or interns supporting volunteer events.
  8. As volunteer engagement opportunities grow, this role may also hire and supervise a full-time coordinator.

Corporate Volunteer Engagement

  1. Manage requests for corporate kit-packing projects including working with nonprofit and school partners to understand needs.
  2. Represent United Way of Salt Lake by attending industry functions and presenting on behalf of the volunteer program.
  3. Maintain appropriate and consistent communication with new and existing corporate and nonprofit partners, prioritize partner experience by responding to requests in an accurate and timely manner.
  4. Collaborate to support content for Impact Newsletter and Corporate Champions Newsletter.

Systems and Data Management

  1. Use volunteer management software to create registrations and manage volunteer data.
  2. Use Salesforce to track annual volunteer events and communications with volunteers and corporate partners.
  3. Pull reports and analyze data on volunteer programming and events.
  4. Assist with implementing new strategies and best practices to strengthen volunteer engagement, including more recurring volunteers and increasing the number of volunteers who also donate.
Requirements:

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Understands facets of job, aware of duties and responsibilities, keeps job knowledge current.
  • Demonstrated experience in volunteer management best practices with the ability to recruit and motivate community members to get involved in volunteer projects.
  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external partners
  • Comfortable with public speaking and able to clearly provide instructions and articulately share about UWSL’s mission and the impact of volunteers.
  • Ability to understand and adapt to different situations and dynamics effectively. Applies personal and professional experience, abilities, and resources to achieve goals.
  • Willingness to take on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to establish and articulate a compelling vision while showing creativity when defining solutions.
  • Demonstrates integrity, accountability, and efficient stewardship of UWSL resources and funds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years volunteer or event management experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft suite, customer relationship management systems (Salesforce preferred), and other communication and tasks management platforms
  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
  • Clear, concise, and professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work occasional weekends, evenings, and/or early mornings

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The team member is regularly required to communicate clearly, in oral and written formats, with others in person, over the phone and via other devices. The team member must be able to transcribe, read extensively, prepare and analyze data and figures, constantly operate a computer and other standard office machinery. The team member is occasionally required to travel to offsite locations to manage volunteer projects and events, attend meetings, and give presentations. The position may require regular movement throughout the office to access files, papers, or supplies weighing up to 50lbs.

BENEFITS

The position is a full-time, exempt position with full benefits. $53,028-64,812. Salary commensurate with experience. UWSL/UP provides a wide range of benefits, including:
