About This Position
Position Description
John A. Logan College is seeking a part-time Campus Law Enforcement Officer to work in the Campus Police Department. The primary focus of this position is to ensure and maintain a secure campus environment by providing protection and security of persons, facilities, and properties of John A. Logan College, patrolling campus and adjacent areas, and enforcing State of Illinois Laws, College policy, rules, and regulations.
Education & Experience Requirements
Education required: High school diploma or equivalent with thirty (30) hours of completed college credit hours at an accredited higher educational institute, must be 21 years of age, must be able to pass a security clearance, must possess a valid driver's license, and must have or obtain an Illinois FOID card.
Education preferred: Associate degree in criminal justice
Experience preferred: Completion of the Illinois Basic Police Academy Training
Essential Functions & Position Duties
• Patrol campus and enforce laws of the State of Illinois and policies of John A. Logan College to provide a safe environment for all stakeholders
• Enforce federal, state, and John A. Logan College laws and regulations
• Perform patrol, traffic direction, and safety management during special and athletic events
• Respond to routine service requests and assistance from stakeholders and the general public
• Watch for and respond appropriately to situations, including but not limited to alarms, accidents, injuries, crimes, disturbances, or dangerous conditions
• Perform special protective assignments with particular persons or property
• Actively work to identify, report, and mitigate any risk management concerns
• Assist the general public by answering inquiries, providing directions, and performing other similar general service activities
• Enforces the college student code of conduct and investigates incidents when necessary
• Writes incident reports and conducts interviews involving incidents that occur on campus
Non-Essential Functions of the Position
Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the abovementioned duties. Duties must be performed on the John A. Logan College campus or designated location.
