LOAN OFFICER
Reports to Vice President of Lending; President/CEO
SUMMARY OF PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Vice President/Lending-Branch Manager in accordance with established Credit Union lending policies. The position performs loan interview, informs members about loan products and options, and ensures effective delivery of products to credit union members while maintaining proper compliance. This position is accountable for achieving various sales behavior and production goals and providing exceptional service at all levels. Loan officers are responsible for making delinquent loan contact to resolve repayment difficulties. The expectations of this job are to build member relationships by providing excellent service and offering products that meet member’ needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Interviews and assists member with applications and Credit union related services in person, by phone, or electronically. Proactively looks for better ways to serve the member.
- Reviews all loan applications, including but not limited to regular consumer loans, home equity loans, first and second mortgages, MasterCard applications, and business loan applications for completeness of information. Makes a determination regarding the appropriate loan alternatives according to the need of the member. Calculates terms and applicable finance charges along with insurance products appropriate to the applications. Pulls credit reports. Approves, rejects, and makes counteroffer within loan officer limitations. Communicates loan approval, denial information to loan applicants.
- Proactively cross-sells credit union products and proactively seeks opportunities to fill members needs with credit union products and provides information on these products to build loyal relationships and meet individual/group sales targets.
- Analyzes potential lending opportunities involved in each lending situation to further assist the borrower as well as increase the credit union’s lending portfolio.
- Authorizes release of collateral on existing loans, changes in loan terms, waivers of payments, due date changes, etc.
- Operates a personal computer accurately.
- Completes all data entry in the Loan Origination Program, prepares all contracts including note and security agreement, ECOA notices, payroll deductions, verification of deposit authorizations, etc.
- Prepares and conducts loan closings; disburses loan proceeds. At closing, reviews the loan documents with borrowers, explaining the necessary signatures on all required documents.
- Follows up on all consumer and real estate paperwork including lien perfections. Secretary of State filings, recording of liens to the county, mortgage, deed, and satisfaction of mortgage recordings, and real estate insurance and tax tracking.
- Knowledge of the secondary market and experience with first and second mortgage residential loan lending.
- Calls specified companies to obtain property title insurance, surveys, and appraisals. Observes discrepancies in titles or surveys and relays to supervisor.
- To maintain knowledge of all consumer and mortgage products and rates, both within the credit union and from the industry overall.
- Accurately tracks sales results.
- Promotes positive employee interactions, communications and productivity through effective communications with supervisor.
- Works with supervisor to refine relevant procedures; oversees the proper implementation of these procedures and monitors adherence to them.
- Ensures compliance with laws, regulations, and policies relevant to area of responsibility.
- Handles/resolves relevant member complaints, referring and information supervisor on the status and steps taken to resolve.
- Maintains positive and productive relationships with members.
- Monitors loan delinquency as requested by supervisor.

23. Performs other duties as directed and assists others to complete tasks and work assignments.
24. Performs loan payoff procedures.
25. Monitor payments for late and/or delinquency status. Follow up on delinquent, high-balance, and overdue credit balance accounts by phone and/or letter. Ensure professional interface with members.
26. Contact high balance and/or delinquent members by telephone and mail to determine the reasons for balance or delinquency and assist them in developing plans to bring accounts to a current status. Develop workout plans and collect on overdue accounts wherever possible.
27. Notify co-signers regarding status of delinquent accounts.
28. Update files and system accounts via the credit union’s delinquent loan recovery system.
29. Secure credit bureau reports. Skip trace on loan account. Maintain accurate data for repossession log, bankruptcy files, charge-off list, etc.
30. Research payroll deductions, stops, start, and changes as they may affect the status of a loan repayment.
31. Assist members with delinquent real-estate loans to resolve delinquency.
32. Assist when to compromise and settle balances and when to initiate foreclosure or repossession proceedings.
33. Assist when loan collateral should be repossessed and serve as liaison with attorneys or agencies in handing repossession of collateral.
34. Assists in filing all claims, attends hearings, and coordinate with trustees for all bankruptcy filings.
35. Investigate and correct discrepancies in loan applications and credit bureau reports.
36. Opens and closes account, share certificates, IRA’s and other specific deposit accounts.
37. When needed will work the teller line and do teller duties.
38. Maintain the confidentiality of member, employee, and credit union information.
39. Understands his/her role in the event of robbery and knows proper post robbery procedures.
40. Work must be performed on-site not remotely.
Requirements:PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop. The employee is occasionally required to lift and carry objects weighing over 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate
- Mortgage Lending (NMLS) preferred
- Ability to work quickly and accurately with fundamental arithmetic. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute discounts, interest rates, ratios, and percents.
- Must be thoroughly familiar with the Credit Union’s lending policies and procedures.
- Must be able to understand various disclosure information and be able to explain related requirements.
- Proficient with all computer applications.
- Must possess good communications skills-friendly, helpful, diplomatic and professional.
- Must be bondable and be/become a Notary Public.
