OVERVIEW:
Construction Innovations is seeking an engineering-minded, creative problem solver to serve as an Assistant Product Engineer. This position will act as the assistant to Product Engineers who will design and detail various products, including assemblies and manufactured parts for electrical construction projects. Project types may be commercial and industrial buildings, utility-scale PV solar plants, other renewable energy plants, or substation, transmission, and distribution projects. The ideal candidate possesses a technical background, the ability to effectively communicate, and has great attention to detail.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support product engineers throughout all stages of estimating, design, and implementation.
- Interpret and extract pertinent details from technical drawings and product information data sheets.
- Support product engineers in the development of detailed installation plans, especially product installation details.
- Create BOMs for all material including assemblies and sub-assemblies of electrical systems, under the supervision of a Product Engineer(s).
- Perform cost analyses.
- Guide field personnel on intended methods of installation.
- Collect and implement installation feedback to assist in improving design and installation plans.
- Suggest ideas for new products that create value.
- Support product engineers throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Assist in the execution and/or implementation of new products and inspect products for conformity with design criteria, including fabrication oversight in the plant and installation oversight in the field.
- Contribute to and maintain product-related logs.
- Train on and perform duties in accordance with the quality management system (QMS).
- Travel to project job sites (up to 10%).
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Additional – Responsibilities
- Maintain departmental work instructions and procedures
- Review project contract specifications to ensure product conformance
- Utilize NEC code with a novice understanding as it relates to assigned product lines
- Assist in the management of product listings
- Assist in the training of Level I Assistant Product Engineers
- Additional - Desired Skills & Experience
- 2+ years as an Assistant Product Engineer or equivalent position in the construction or manufacturing industries, or 4+ years relevant experience on electrical construction projects
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in electrical or construction projects
- Understanding of electrical materials, construction means, and methods
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of renewable energy projects gained either through a trade education or an engineering degree is highly preferred, but not required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Experience with CAD and/or 3D Modeling software is a plus, but not required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Occasionally required to sit for long and short periods of time.

- Occasionally required to bend or twist at the neck and torso.

- Occasionally required to reach forward, grab, grasp, pinch, handle material and tools using upper extremities.
- Frequently required to lift, push, and pull objects weighing up to 25lbs.
- Required to have visual acuity with or without correction to inspect products before and after installation.
- Constantly required to hear sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to hear detailed information and distinguish sounds to avoid hazards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The Assistant Product Engineer spends most of their time in an office environment, but will frequently spend time at the company’s manufacturing plant, or occasionally at the project site. The office is an open and collaborative space where work is performed both independently and with the team. When at the plant, work is performed in a more traditional manufacturing environment, with higher noise levels and frequent movement of people and equipment. When on-site, the environment is that of a construction job site, which may be in fairly remote rural locations, and where extreme weather conditions may be encountered.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
This position reports to the Product Manager.

LOCATION:
Construction Innovations facilities and offices are located in Sacramento, CA, and Mather, CA.
COMPENSATION:
A reasonable estimate of the current hourly range for this position is $26.88 - $39.90 per hour. The actual amount offered within this range will depend on a variety of factors, including geography, skills and abilities, education, experience, and other relevant job-related factors. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
