Position Overview
The Data Center Deployment Technician III is a senior, hands-on role for candidates with 4+ years of data center experience. This position performs the full lifecycle of structured cabling deployment, including labeling, bundling, dressing, porting, and testing of fiber optic and copper cabling, while also leading and supporting small teams on-site.
Technicians at this level are expected to work independently, mentor junior technicians, and ensure work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with client and TDS standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Structured Cabling & Deployment
- Perform end-to-end fiber optic and copper cabling tasks, including:
- Labeling, bundling, and dressing cables to client standards.
- Porting cables per approved documentation and layouts.
- Ensure proper cable routing, bend radius, and pathway organization.
- Testing & Validation
- Perform testing on fiber optic and copper cabling using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Validate continuity, signal integrity, and labeling accuracy.
- Document test results and report any failures or discrepancies.
- Quality Control / Quality Assurance
- Conduct QC/QA checks across labeling, dressing, porting, and testing activities.
- Identify, document, and escalate quality issues, rework needs, or damaged cabling.
- Support client walkthroughs, audits, and closeout activities.
- Team Leadership & Support
- Lead and manage small teams of deployment technicians on-site.
- Provide guidance, direction, and on-the-job training to Level I and Level II technicians.
- Coordinate daily work assignments and ensure adherence to project schedules.
- Act as a point of contact between technicians and project leadership.
- Documentation & Site Support
- Maintain accurate documentation, redlines, checklists, and test records.
- Capture photos and records for project closeout packages.
- Enforce safety standards, PPE usage, and site cleanliness.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in a data center environment.
- Proven experience with fiber optic and copper cabling, including testing.
- Strong understanding of data center cabling standards and best practices.
- Ability to read and follow drawings, labeling schemes, and port maps.
- Leadership experience or demonstrated ability to lead small teams.
- Comfortable working in active data center environments.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on feet for extended periods.
Preferred (Not Required):
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience with fiber testers and copper certification tools.
- Military, trade school, or technical training background.
- Prior lead or senior technician experience on deployment projects.
