About This Position

  • JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
    • A health care professional trained in the delivery of pharmaceutical care services. Under the supervision of the Residency Program Director and other preceptors, and in accordance with the rules, regulations and standards set forth by the State of Oregon and the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, the resident will provide pharmaceutical care services to patients in hospital, clinic and other outpatient and long term care settings. Also develops practice management and clinical judgment skills in order to provide an integrated and responsible level of pharmaceutical service. The resident is engaged in a one-year training program resulting in the award of a certificate of residency completion.
  • DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    • The PGY Pharmacy residency is designed to help the resident learn comprehensive patient care in the acute and ambulatory care setting. Upon completion of the program, residents will be able to provide evidence based, patient centered medication management within an interdisciplinary team. Other skills taught include process improvement, project management, leadership, medication education, teaching and dissemination of knowledge.
  • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
    • Graduation from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy required.
    • Current unencumbered Oregon Board of Pharmacy Intern license required. Oregon Pharmacist licensure required within four (4) months of starting residency.
    • Healthcare Provider Level BLS and ACLS required within 90 days of hire.
    • All job offers are contingent upon the candidate passing a pre-employment/post offer drug screen.

    • Communication - Effective written and oral communication skills to explain complex issues, exchange information between team members, and tactfully discuss issues. Ability to perform group presentations and listen to and understand complex information and ideas.
    • Computer Literacy - Knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware, software, and applications. Ability to operate applications, enter data, and process information.

    • Social Perceptiveness - Ability to work with a diverse population from pediatrics to geriatrics. Basic understanding of age-related differences in caring for and/or communicating with patients and caregivers. Possess personal sensitivity to the needs and experiences of others and a non-judgmental attitude towards persons of differing standards, values, lifestyles and ages.
    • Team Building - Ability to work, function and communicate on a multi-disciplinary team. Possess the knowledge and skills to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.
    • Time Management - Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work to complete within required time frames and to follow-up on pending issues. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in dynamic fast-paced environments and under pressure.
    • Problem Solving - Ability to identify complex problems, review related information, employ creativity and alternative thinking to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Possess good judgment and decision making skills.
